Seventh grade scholars bowl team takes first at league

Eighth grade squad places third

Marion Middle School Scholars' Bowl teams were successful April 5 at the MCAA League 12-school meet at Reno Valley Middle School.

The MMS seventh grade team of Sam Ehrlich, Louis Holt, Eric Vogel, Lee Vogel, and Chris Guetersloh took first place.

The team posted a 4-1 record in pool play. In semi-finals the seventh graders defeated Wichita Collegiate before taking two matches from Sterling in the best two-of-three finals to capture first.

All team members scored with Eric Vogel leading the team with 280 points, followed by Ehrlich with 95 points, Holt 80, Lee Vogel and Guetersloh each had 20.

The eighth grade team of Matt Thierolf, Adam Regnier, Lucy Collett, Adam Svoboda, and Luke Gordon took third place.

They eighth graders posted a 4-1 record in pool play. They lost to Hillsboro in semi-finals before winning two matches in the best two-of-three consolation round against Haven to place third.

All eighth grade team members scored with Thierolf leading the way with 430 points. Regnier had 90, Svoboda 40, Gordon 30, and Collett 10.

Marion County was represented well at league meet with both Marion and Hillsboro seventh and eighth grade teams advancing to the semi-finals.
