Shutout ends season for Warrior baseball team

Sports reporter

Marion-Florence/Peabody-Burns High School baseball team can take solace in the fact its only victory of the season was against rival Hillsboro.

After a 1-14 season, the Warriors ended their year Monday in the first round of the 4A regional at Augusta with a 15-0 loss to Andover Central.

With the combination of Peabody-Burns and Marion High School, the Warriors had to play in a 4A regional.

The game started off well for MFPB when leadoff man Calvin Jeffrey walked on a full-count pitch. Unfortunately for the Warriors, another walk to Jeffrey and a Zan Fine single were the only base runners MFPB could muster the entire game.

In the bottom of the first inning the Jaguars scored nine runs against freshman starter Brian Fruechting and Jeffrey.

After a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the second, the Warriors allowed just one run in the bottom half of the inning, and had two base runners in the top of the third, but still came up empty.

The offensive barrage continued for Central, as it seemed to hit every spot on the field where a Warrior defender wasn't.

When the 15th run scored with two outs in the third inning, the game was called.

The Warriors will lose just two seniors, catcher Aaron Burnett and first baseman Chase Williams, and have five freshmen benefit next year from a season of varsity competition under their belts.
