Smith named new pastor at Valley church
Phil Smith has been appointed pastor of Valley United Methodist Church, Marion.
Smith, 49, has a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Kansas and a master's degree in physical therapy from Wichita State University.
He has been a local pastor for two years and a lay speaker for three years before that. Smith has been attending a course of study at St. Paul's School of Theology in Kansas City for the past one and one-half years.
His wife, Sharon, works in the school system as a teacher's aide. The couple has two daughters, Allison, who is a junior at Emporia State University majoring in biology, and Alexa, 8, who will be a third grader.
Smith comes to Marion with a passion to make ministry relevant to all and build on the gifts of the community. He is a licensed pastor and physical therapist. He enjoys bicycling and reading.
