Some Chingawassa events require pre-registration

For those brave of heart, longing to be in the limelight, or just wanting to have fun need to register now to participate in events during Chingawassa Days.

Events that require pre-registration before the festival are Extreme Rhino Challenge, Chingawassa Idol, Rhino Run, Bed Rock 'n Run bed races, and dodge ball tournament.

Entry forms for the rhino challenge and bed races are available at Tampa State Bank at 1100 E. Main Street, Marion. A $10 fee per rhino challenge contestant and $30 per team for bed races is required.

Only 10 entries will be accepted for Chingawassa Idol. Sign up at Gene's Travel, 426 E. Main Street, Marion. There is no cost to enter.

Pre-registration can be made for the Rhino Run at Case and Son Insurance at 220 E. Main Street, Marion. Registration is $20 before May 26 or $25 after. Entry fee includes a T-shirt and Saturday park pass. A $5 reduction will be given with the presentation of a festival button.

Information and registration forms for the dodge ball tournament are available at Marion City Office, 208 E. Santa Fe Street or Marion Police Department at 112 N. Fifth Street. The cost is $6 per team. There are three players per team in two age groups — 12 to 17 and 18 and older.

Other participatory events and registration information are Rhino Riders of Marion Poker Run, register from 8 to 9:45 a.m. June 3 at Carlsons' Grocery, 1121 E. Main Street, Marion. All participants must be wearing a Chingawassa Days button. A parade will be held at 10 a.m. on Main Street.

Two-people teams for the horseshoe pitching tournament may contact organizer Jeff Harper at (620) 382-8977 prior to the festival or register five minutes prior to the start of the tournament in the park.

Participants for Texas Hold'em Poker Tourney, boot race, money in the hay, wife carrying contest, rock-paper-scissors, pedal tractor pull, and bingo may register prior to the events.

Adoption of ducks for St. Luke Dinky Duck Race is now taking place. Adopt ducks by calling (620) 382-2177.

Rhino owners are reminded that rhinos will be judged Monday for Chingawassa Days. Owners who want to participate need to contact Marion Chamber of Commerce at (620) 382-3425.
