Some parts of county get taste of winter

When ice pellets began to fall in parts of Marion County Nov. 29, residents were reminiscent of the Jan. 3, 2005, ice storm and wondered if it was going to happen again.

Luckily, it did not.

An ice storm, with intermittent thunder, rain, and hail, traveled through the county and caused slippery sidewalks, roadways, and traffic tie-ups.

Two roll-over accidents occurred within minutes and yards of each other on U.S.-50, just west of Florence. No one was injured in either mishap.

The temperature hovered in the 20s and 30s with single-digit wind chills. A light dusting of snow also was reported in parts of the county.

The storm was selective with a visible dividing line where the wintry mix began and ended.

By the weekend, all evidence of winter weather was gone with temperatures in the 40s.
