Soyez competes in Optimist golf tournament at Salina
Hillsboro High School golfer and Florence resident Elliott Soyez played Thursday in the Optimist International Kansas State Championship tournament at Salina.
Soyez shot a 70 and finished tied for first with Jeff Bell of Wichita in the 16-18-year-old boys' division.
Soyez lost in a playoff but still qualified for the national tournament held at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., which drew players from 29 countries this past year.
The incoming junior however will not be able to attend because of another golfing conflict.
Soyez is the son of Will and Gayla Soyez of Florence.
