Speaking of china, bones, and Barbara Bush

Well, I learn something new every day, new to me anyway. I just read where vegetarians won't eat off of bone-china dishes.

I don't know whether my china is bone-china or not. I bought a 12-piece place setting when I was in Germany in 1958. We were in a town that was just emerging from the damage of World War II. There was this huge, beautiful store of china. There were many patterns and I (having little time) rushed around and finally chose a pattern with a rosewood design in the center. The store people agreed to send it in small packages spread out over a month or so. I received it all and only one piece was broken, which they replaced.

Speaking of bones, a couple of years ago I read "These Lovely Bones." It was a book that headed the top list in the papers for a long time. It is a strange story about a young girl who is murdered and goes to heaven, from where she observes her friends and family.

When archaeologists find ancient bones they can tell the sex and age of the person who's bones they are examining.

I'm reading a very interesting book, "Reflections," by Barbara Bush, which was published in 2003. She tells of their travels, speeches, world-renowned people, and family. She tells it just like you and I would, and it is full of humor. She often is the brunt of the joke. You can't help but like her. She is very loyal to her family and friends and generous in her thoughts and opinions.
