St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary hosts district meeting

Seventy members representing 12 Kansas hospital auxiliaries gathered May 1 at Marion County Lake hall for a district meeting, hosted by St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary.

The meeting followed a picnic theme with cookies and coffee for a morning break and a picnic lunch at noon, catered by Panhandlers Catering, Hillsboro.

St. Luke Hospital CEO Jeremy Armstrong gave a welcome speech, pointing out the value of volunteer work at rural hospitals.

Silver-haired legislator Howard Collett gave an update on what the state legislature is doing in regard to senior citizens and what needs to happen in the future.

Nancy Farmer, district coordinator, introduced current president, Alice Allen, who spoke about the value of planning ahead.

Farmer also introduced president-elect Darlene Huffaker, who gave an inspiring speech on believing in yourself.

"Every volunteer makes a difference. Don't worry about what you could have, should have, or would have done, just do it with a smile," Huffaker said.

Each auxiliary gave a report on the current status of their group and told about fund-raisers.

Scrapbooks from several of the auxiliaries were on display. A reminder was given to get photos, articles, etc., to the district historian, Marsha King.

The state convention will be in Topeka next year.

The next District IV meeting will be hosted May 1, 2007, by the Caldwell auxiliary.
