The living center bakers made potato chip cookies Friday morning from a 1978-79 Centre High School FHA/HERO cookbook, using a recipe submitted by Judy Abbott. Many of our bakers were familiar with these cookies, but didn't know or remember how delicious they were.

That afternoon Pat Smith came to call bingo, bringing along a still-warm coffee cake to share with us.

Gene entertained with some accordion music Saturday morning, following walks and rosary time.

The Rev. Jeremiah Lange and pianist Carol Broadstreet of Marion Presbyterian Church were here Sunday afternoon to bring God's message in word and song.

During book club Tuesday morning, we began reading "These Happy Golden Years." After many years of honing our intuitiveness, we understood the trepidation Laura felt as she left home to begin her teaching career at age 15.

We usually have a hot cup of coffee during or after we read together, and on this day, Pearl brought a jar of little lemon sugar cubes and a tin of mini candy bars and other sweets to eat, too.

Perhaps we need to take some responsibility for Wednesday's wind and snow. We had spent the previous afternoon folding, cutting, and "fashioning" paper snowflakes in light sky blue and winter white colors. In less than 24 hours we had the real deal. Don't tease Mother Nature!

Wednesday a.m. Allison led prayer group in the absence of Dick Pracht. There also was time to mix up and bake two cakes to be used the following afternoon.

We read the Marion County Record with Carmel's voice "relaying" the news. Later we enjoyed a plate of delicious snacks the dietary department had prepared and exercised playing kick-ball with Amanda.

Events caused us to change our course Thursday morning and we lovingly created and signed cards of condolence for Irma Reznicek and her son and our colleague, Bob.

Because we had no January resident birthdays, we celebrated the birth of 2008, Martin Luther King Jr., Kansas, and Dolly Parton that afternoon. We ate the confetti cakes we'd made, enhanced with some cotton candy-flavored ice cream and hot coffee.

Those residents who felt the need to "pretty-up" a little were accommodated by May in the beauty shop Monday morning.

Volunteer Marie Navrat and the living center pitch players entertained themselves around a card table after lunch. Mid-afternoon, Shirley Bowers played the piano and led group hymn singing.
