Living center bakers followed a "lead" given to us by Khrista and made "Secret Kiss Cookies" Friday morning using a recipe from the Happiness kitchens. The secret hidden inside the nutty shortbread dough was a chocolate kiss.

We played bingo that afternoon with Elsie Reiswig calling and Bill Schimpf's help. In honor of leap year, we added a 13th game to our usual bingo itinerary and made the letter L a winner also.

Saturday morning we greeted March by working on an exhibit to chart the extraordinary number of notable days in the month this year. We began with a lamb and a March calendar page, because Saturday was lamb-like. The lion was added closer to the bottom of the page. Also exhibited is a rainbow, leprechaun, and pot of gold.

It's our plan to add pictures of early spring, the advent of daylight saving time, and of course, all the special days of Easter. Happy Slifer wonders if major league baseball officially opens in March this year also.

Pastor Phil Smith of Valley United Methodist Church joined our chapel-goers for Sunday afternoon services. It was nice to have Shirley Bowers' piano and Sharon Smith's voice for singing hymns, too.

On the Dakota prairie the subtle courtship of Laura by Almanzo continues, surviving interference by the infamous Nellie Oleson. And book club enthusiasts sympathized with the Ingalls Tuesday morning when Mary asked permission to spend the summer with a schoolmate's family in Iowa.

That afternoon we did our part to spread the "luck o' the Irish" with a homemade shamrock stamp. Heart-shapes were carved from a potato and using three of the spud-stampers dipped into acrylic paint we created shamrocks. Sheets of cover stock paper were decorated to be used as table or wall decorations.

Thursday afternoon was perfect outing weather and we took full advantage of it. Our van, with Khrista at the wheel, took K-150 through the Flint Hills to Elmdale where we made some right turns toward Florence. From there we headed home via the north side of Marion County Lake where ducks and geese were sighted.

As we're preparing these news items, we're also awaiting the arrival of the Maloney girls and their baby goats. Stay tuned for "the rest of the story."
