We managed some outings this past week on Wednesday and Thursday — one not on "the schedule" and the other two a variation from "the schedule." Chalk up our unpredictability to either cabin fever or spring fever.

This week our Friday morning bakers made raisin-applesauce crisscross cookies from a 1962 recipe book compiled by the Senior MYF of Cedar Chapel Methodist Church in Wichita.

Lois Winter was here in the afternoon to call bingo for a large group and brought some freshly made banana bread to share.

Our initial Saturday afternoon activity included the assembly and baking of pull-apart sticky buns. We used refrigerated buttermilk biscuits, walnuts, butter, pancake syrup, cream cheese, and cinnamon-sugar. The wonderful smell of these little buns baking was a treat in itself.

Just as we were licking our fingers and finishing our coffee a trio of girls from Marion Scout Troop 66 and two leaders came through the door with a basket full of still-warm oatmeal, peanut butter, chocolate chip cookies. The group walked through the halls visiting and making sure everyone received a bag of baked snacks.

The Rev. Larry King of Good News Christian Fellowship was the Sunday guest minister.

Seldom are first birthdays celebrated at the living center, but Sunday Olinda's great-granddaughter, one-year-old Olivia Meier and her parents, Jams and Andrea of Emporia brought cake and ice cream for this purpose. It was a happy afternoon for the Meiers, their toddler, a proud great-grandma, and many other family members who were able to be here.

Kay Steele brought a portion of her Precious Moments collection Monday afternoon to display for our enjoyment. We had refreshments after Kay shared information and history about her delightful figurines.

We had book club Tuesday morning and appreciated Laura's fascination with the railroad work moving westward near Silver Lake. Pa finally took her to the work site to watch the plowing and grading. It was "a wonderful afternoon."

The first Tuesday of the month is ordinarily the afternoon we enjoy having the St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary members visit. This week Evelyn Bredemeier, Jean Case, and Joann Fitzpatrick provided a St. Patrick's Day them including wearin' o' the green, large, delicious homemade blarney stones, and some small, deliciously sweet "spuds." All we needed to do was provide cups and freshly made coffee — quite a deal!

Our little beauty shop is "wearin' the green" also, thanks to beautician Bonnie's shiny shamrocks and sparkly green strands.

Many residents spent some time out of doors later in the afternoon. We located the cushions that had spent the winter in storage and put those patio chairs to use.
