Our electric range was off limits, therefore we weren't technically bakers Friday morning. Not wishing to be stymied, we prepared a couple "limited edition" Betty Crocker Almond Joy and Heath dessert bar mixes. The directions included 30 minutes of refrigeration, so not only was there no aroma of baking, but no sample to enjoy with our coffee.

By that afternoon, the little trays of treats had firmed and following bingo, we shared small squares of the rich bars with the players, caller Elsie Reiswig, Bill Schimpf, and others.

Gene Vinduska was here Saturday morning to bring sunshine indoors with his accordion music. This self-taught music maker recently has begun playing the electric guitar. We hope his first "public appearance" will be for us.

We were happy to have members of the Florence-Aulne United Methodist congregations here to participate in our Sunday afternoon service. This faithful group brought the message in word (Florence) and song (Aulne).

We used material from a variety of sources during our Earth Day observance Tuesday morning. There was "The Dirt on Dirt" book by Paulette Bourgeois where we read of the world's longest earthworm — 22 feet, an AP article on beaches strewn with trash from the Ocean Conservancy, discussed volcanic ash, and reviewed 14 easy ways to be green from Better Health and Living.

After lunch we lightened up and had a great time making grass-head guys (and gals). Our grassless heads have eyes, mouths, and some noses, and are bald, but we're hopeful. It undoubtedly will take a little time.

Thursday morning during the usual hymn sing hour, we played noodle ball in our front living area. A word to the wise, if you come to our home and see colorful noodles swinging, enter at your own risk.

In the afternoon we took van trips, wondering if we would see remains of Wednesday's heavy rains. Before we had exited the city limits, one group saw eight deer cross the road in front of them. Our drive then took us into Canada and then toward the reservoir.
