Bethann Black, who serves Florence and Aulne United Methodist churches was our Sunday guest minister.

Thank you to Doris Buckner for filling in as OIC of the pretty-up department Monday morning. She is a longtime friend of ours and it is good to have her here.

Another longtime friend, Ellen Darrow, was here to play the piano for our enjoyment in the afternoon.

Even though our facility has kept us cool and comfortable during this heat wave, our beautician, Bonnie Plummer "heated up" her little room with red and gold sparkly strings of little chili peppers. She even added several large red peppers here and there for added effect and conversation.

A few weeks ago we mentioned the feeling of awe when a LifeTeam helicopter lifted off our pad. Tuesday morning we shared the personal experience of John Gutsch, who made the trip from Salida, Colo., to Colorado Springs as a patient aboard a Flight for Life chopper recently.

Just before noon, Theodora Koslowsky brought 10 or more vases of flowers, fresh from their garden, to distribute to residents' rooms. We identified them as daisies, phlox, gladiolus, and/or cosmos and asters.

That afternoon during book club, the first blizzard of the long winter caught the Ingalls girls at school. The students and teachers blindly made their way home, walking in treacherous winds and freezing snow.

The lunch bunch traveled to Hillsboro Thursday noon and dined at Olde Towne Restaurant. Olinda gave a "four-star" rating to her chicken fried steak and green beans. Other lunchers included Alice, Melvin, David, Gladys, Amelia, our "four-star" driver, Khrista, and good company volunteers Shirley Bowers and Joann Fitzpatrick.

As quickly as healthy tomatoes begin to ripen in our courtyard garden, Mel picks them before any rot or hot rays of sun ruins them. Just as quickly the ripe ones are sliced and served at mealtimes.

Jean Bailey brought a large basket of cherry tomatoes Friday morning for our consumption. Perhaps she heard rumors of our less than abundant crop.
