St. Luke Living Center

Lois Winter was here Thursday morning to lead us as we sang favorite hymns.

The lunch bunch dined in at noon due to the west, wintry weather conditions.

After lunch, 12 members of resident council and two visitors met with Khrista and Debbie for our monthly meeting. The purpose of the council was discussed and residents were encouraged to consider having a resident chair the group.

Plans were formulated for the Dec. 24 afternoon Christmas celebration. Thus far, it includes Gene Vinduska playing carols on his accordion, eggnog, lots of snacks, and opening gifts.

We also voiced some ideas for our New Year's Eve party and meal. Pizza, pasta, breadsticks, a relish tray, and soft drinks were suggested by the residents present. Later the "big red machine" popped up several batches of buttery popcorn, which really hit the spot on this cold, damp day.

Friday morning the living center bakers mixed up a batch of Esther Unruh's "Great Cookies," a recipe clipped from a weekly farm paper several years ago. As advertised, they were great! We shared some of the cookies with Jerome and Donna Hajek and their grandsons, William and Matthew, who had come to visit great-grandma, Mildred. The little boys sang, "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," before going out the door. That was an even nice treat than the cookies.

Due to the weather, Magdalen Dvorak took a rain check on playing bingo that afternoon. We once again thank Bill Schimpf for spending that part of his day with us. It's good to have his good help every Friday.

During our Saturday afternoon activity time, we passed out scissors, placed wastebaskets strategically and carefully carved out pictures of foods, decorations, symbols, scenes, and memories of Christmas. We got so caught up in cutting and shaping, we'll need another session to actually do some door decorating with our pictures from a myriad of sources.

We were happy to have the Rev. and Mrs. Mike Eurit of Eastmoor United Methodist Church as our guest minister and pianist Sunday afternoon.

Monday morning we had a little pretty-up time and also a time of hymn singing with Shirley Bowers.

We're happy to announce that Santa has moved from the St. Luke thrift shop and has taken up residence at St. Luke Living Center. We are enjoying his visit and invite you to stop by, too.
