Students attend Youth Day at LKM conference in Wichita

Thirty youth from across Kansas participated Oct. 10 in Youth Day at the 97th annual League of Kansas Municipalities conference. The conference was held at Century II, Wichita.

The day began with keynote speaker and state fire marshal Jack Alexander who encouraged his audience to celebrate diversity.

Youth participated in workshops with elected officials and learned of leadership development opportunities. Other speakers included Kathleen Sebelius, governor of Kansas; Carlos Mayans, mayor of Wichita; Christine Downey, former state senator; and Willis Heck, mayor of Newton.

Local youth in attendance included Jordan Timm, Jessica Bernhardt, Lena O'Connor, and Christie Coleman, all of Marion; Josh Kenney, Kim Spencer, Heather Goldsby, Adam Suderman, Jacob Fish, and Andrea Bartel, all of Hillsboro. Sponsors were Linda Ogden, Marion; and Tonja Wienck, Hillsboro.
