Students participate in Red Ribbon Week

This past week, USD 408 students participated in activities related to drug and alcohol awareness.

Balloons were launched Oct. 25 at the Marion High School junior varsity football to kick-off the event.

On Tuesday, Marion Middle School students drove a golf cart through an obstacle course. They put on "fatal vision" glasses which replicated the effects of alcohol and drugs and attempted to maneuver the same obstacle course.

MMS and MHS students attended a special assembly Tuesday afternoon to hear the story of Janelle Kaufman, an 18-year-old who died in an accident as a result of a drunk driver.

Janelle's parents, Don and Bonnie Kaufman, told the story of Janelle's life and death.

On Thursday, Marion Elementary School students participated in a "Drugstore Project."

Students were taken through various steps of drug and alcohol abuse, concluding with a mock funeral for a classmate.
