Surgeon provides weekly services at St. Luke

Staff reporter

The new general surgeon at St. Luke Hospital feels right at home in Marion.

Dr. Clayton Fetsch recently began to practice at the Marion hospital, replacing longtime surgeon Dr. Stephen Cranston.

"I grew up in a town this size in North Dakota," Fetsch said, so he feels right at home.

"I understand the importance of a community hospital remaining vital and active," he said, and appreciates smaller, community hospitals.

Fetsch recently completed his five-year residency rotation primarily at Via Christi Hospital — St. Francis Campus and Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

Prior to the residency through the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Fetsch completed a four-year undergraduate degree and a four-year medical degree in North Dakota.

Fetsch also is a general surgeon at Memorial Hospital, McPherson, and comes to Marion every Tuesday.

Surgical procedures are performed in the morning and patients are seen in the clinic in the afternoon.

Being trained for general surgery, Fetsch is trained to perform endoscopy procedures that include the pancreas, liver, gall bladder, and bile ducts, cancer surgery, and wound care.

Fetsch resides with wife Olivia and four-month-old son Owen in McPherson.

"I'm glad to be involved with St. Luke Hospital and its staff," he said.
