Svitak dies in U.S.-50 crash years ago

A tragic accident claimed the life of a Marion County business owner and father of three.

Todd Svitak, 40, rural Marion, was killed Friday night when the vehicle he was riding in collided with a tractor-trailer on U.S.-50 west of Nighthawk.

The accident occurred at 10:12 p.m. when Trent Svitak, 14, was driving an eastbound 1989 Dodge van when it crossed the center line, and struck a westbound semi head-on.

Trent and Taylor Svitak, 12, also a passenger, were transported by Lifeteam to Wesley Medical Center and were treated and released.

The driver of the semi, Kendall R. Naber, 39, Cedar Falls, Iowa, was not injured.

Svitak owned and operated Svitak Machine at Lincolnville and lived in Pilsen.

The stretch of highway was near the sites of three other deadly accidents this past summer where nine people were killed. Those accidents occurred during road construction on the highway.
