LETTERS:   Take care of the lake years ago

To the Editor:

I've been trying to decide whether to send this or not. After reading last week's My Turn, I decided I should.

I do not know what the county commission has decided to do with the county lake situation, but as a lake resident I am disgusted.

I am disgusted at the basic condition of the lake. The roads are and have been horrible for some time. There are large potholes on Lakeshore. I live on Jerome and there are two large holes — one either side when you turn, so no matter, you are hitting one or the other!

Is the commission willing to help us residents pay for the damage caused to our vehicles due to daily driving on these "roads?"

Also, last I knew, there is still nobody to run the so called bait shop. The idea that the lake residents will want this responsibility is ridiculous! We live at the lake, we certainly do not want to take over all the duties!

We as "community" there, already try to maintain the lake. I know many of us who clean up after campers leave, and stop when we see garbage blowing to pick it up. I know that we care about one another and the beautiful area we have chosen to live. I also know that many of us are either too elderly to take on such responsibility or too busy raising children to do so.

The thought of another metal building is just an eyesore waiting to happen! We don't need more buildings that will sit unused more then used! Who would ever think that is the answer to this problem?

I also know that Dale made very little secret about his plan to retire, so why did the commission take so long to decide what action to take? They should have been planning for this long ago! You certainly cannot expect to find someone to fill those large shoes in a few weeks.

I have been coming to this lake since Dale was new to the job, and there can never be another Dale.

I would however, like to say "thank you" to the Marion County Sheriff's Department for patrolling more frequently at the lake. I'm sure I'm not alone in the appreciation.
