Taking the bull by the horns

Christmas will come a little early this year for those who plan to attend Marion High School's production of "Seussical the Musical."

Those who never have attended an MHS production should plan to attend this year. Not only will they get to see a first-class production, they will get a free lesson in the art of cooperation and community good will.

Dedicated students spend months rehearsing and learning lines and dance steps. Students also help build sets, make costumes, handle promotion, and do just about everything needed to make sure the curtain goes up on opening night.

These students also have homework, are involved in sports and other extracurricular activities, and hold jobs in the community. They are serious about their responsibilities, understand the value of cooperation, and see the benefit of giving back to the community.

We should take a lesson from them. This group of students does what residents of Marion should be doing — cooperating and giving back to the community.

The next time you wonder why "they" don't do something to fix a problem, settle an issue, build a building, or whatever — stop and think about these high school students.

They don't sit around worrying about "how" something will get done or wait on someone else to do it — they just take the bull by the horns and do it themselves.

We should take a lesson from them. "We" should pitch in and help.
