Last week's news

Like many others in the Midwest, Tampa residents were out of electricity for eight days, Dec. 10-18. Some in the community were still without power as this is written, Dec. 20. Some had generators and helped those who had not. Your correspondent spent six days with Greg and Michele Berens, Reece and Addie and two with John and Kathy Oborny and Diane Steiner. There were some refugees who stayed with relatives in areas that had power. Much credit should go to the Tampa firefighters and EMTs and to Sheriff Lee Becker and his deputies. They made every effort to check on everyone and make sure all could keep warm and fed. There was a shelter at Lincolnville. Everyone who now has power is very grateful to God and to the people helping them through the ordeal.

Adeline Bernhardt spent Friday to Wednesday with Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington. On Sunday they attended the children's Christmas program at Calvary Lutheran Church.

Leona Kleiber spent Sunday to Tuesday with Terry and Cindy Vinduska at Marion.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika spent Dec. 11-12 at the motel. From Thursday to Wednesday they stayed with Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna, who had a generator.

Many Tampa people and friends and family from afar attended rosary Sunday evening and funeral services Monday for Gene Costello, who spent most of his life on a farm one and one-half miles south of Tampa. The Tampa community grieves with his family.
