Another snow Monday night and Tuesday has Tampa back in the deep freeze. Since many residents have been staying in their warm homes, news is a bit sparse, even for two weeks.

If you missed seeing Tampa news in last week's paper, it was because your correspondent had cataract surgery and was not focusing yet on Wednesday. She is now back in business.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika enjoyed dinner out Wednesday in Durham in celebration of Valentine's Day and the anniversary of their engagement.

Tom and Dee Duggan met Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington at the Hilltop Community Center in Herington Sunday. Tom treated the others to a special Valentine dinner.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita and Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro were Sunday dinner guests of their mother, Lois Sklenar.

Donald and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., were here for the weekend visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. They were en route to Florida for a six-week stay. While there they intend to visit Philothea Snell of McIntosh and Lynn and Amy Briggs and family of Orlando.

Nikki Stenzel took third place in oral interpretation of poetry at the forensics meet in Council Grove Saturday. This qualified her for competition at the state meet. Her mother, Lori Moldenhauer, attended the meet to hear her perform. Congratulations, Nikki.

The Centre quiz team competed strongly at the state tournament in Spearville Saturday, but did not get into the finals. Team members were Kristine Jirak, Julie Rziha, Tye Remy, Brooke Carlson, and Elya Medicjhanova. Fans going to Spearville to support the team included John and Sue Gutsch and Lynley Remy of Lincolnville, Francis and Mary Jirak, Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, and Cecilia Rziha.

Saturday supper guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna and Mackenzie Dornbush. The occasion was an early celebration of Valentine's Day.

Willis and Eleanor Herbel, Gus and Mildred Hamm, and Jane Vajnar were among those attending a Valentine dinner at the Durham Baptist Church Sunday evening. Paula Herbel gave a brief devotion, and Edie Ollenburger was master of ceremonies for a short program. A bouquet of roses was presented to the couple who had been married the longest, Irvin and Muriel Christiansen, who were married in 1940. Two long-stemmed roses were given to other couples who had been married more than 50 years. Bob and Marlene Herzet took the prize for the most recently married couple.

Mary Clemmer visited Lois Sklenar on Thursday.

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League met Wednesday evening in the church basement. Joyce Medley was the hostess; she also led opening and closing devotions. Pastor Clark Davis gave the topic. Others present included Kathy Davis, Cindy Bentz, Edna Mueller, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, Edna Backhus, Betty Mueller, and Janet Bielefeld.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs and Russ and Julie Kerbs were among those attending the finals of the junior high basketball tournament Feb. 3 at Hope. Other family members attending were Tim and Marchelle Kerbs of Salina, Connie Thompson and Taylor of Abilene, and Jesse and Ashton Smith of Pilsen. They all went to cheer on Rustyn Kerbs, who played on the Centre team which took first place. The Centre girls team took third. Congratulations to all.
