Summer is here! The first ball game of the season at the Tampa diamond was played Tuesday evening. The 9-10-year-old boys defeated Hillsboro.

The Tampa Café opened Tuesday. As of this writing it was doing a brisk business. Residents are glad to have a restaurant in town again.

Adeline Bernhardt spent Monday to Wednesday with Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan at Wichita.

Most Tampa people were busy this weekend going to graduation parties. Eight young people from this community graduated Sunday from Centre High School — Nickalas Cole, Amy Hajek, Kristine Jirak, Julie Rziha, Aurora Salamone, Allie Will, and Bermet Zhumakadyr kyzy. Kristine, Julie, and Nikki are members of National Honor Society and received all the 4.0 pins awarded. They and Amy won scholarship trophies. Congratulations! Tampa is proud of you.

Tom and Dee Duggan spent Thursday to Tuesday in Albuquerque, N.M., where they attended Brian Becker's high school graduation. Brian is the son of Steve and Ilene Becker and grandson of Gene and Pat Westerhaus of Flagstaff, Ariz. Others present included Beth Schafer of Phoenix, Ariz., Heather Becker of Las Cruces, N.M., and Jerry and Sandy Becker of Brandon, S.D. The Duggans stopped at Logan, N.M., on their way out and visited Jim Oborny. En route home they saw the Loretto church in Santa Fe, which has the legendary "impossible" staircase.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended a reception for their granddaughter, Molly Kerbs, Sunday afternoon at the home of her parents, Tim and Marchelle Kerbs of Salina. Molly graduated Saturday from Fort Hays State University. Many other relatives and friends attended.

Out-of-town relatives and friends who came to see Nikki Stenzel graduate Sunday and attend her reception were Lyal and Julie Sader, Lynn and Mary Sader and family of Salina, Ruth Riggin and Lois Peterson of Burdick, Helen Sader of Lindsborg, Ronnie and Sandy Stika of Wichita, Alice Wendt, Millie Rowe, Norma Olson, Duane Brunner, Pastor Troy and Julie Slater, and Ken Pigorsch, all of Herington, Jim and Marilyn Anderson of Hope, Don Kohls of Junction City, Irene and Francis Hanschu, Jim Weber, Zeb and Norma Wright, and Fern Leach and Josh, all of Ramona.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to the home of Doug and Connie Thompson and Taylor of Abilene Saturday evening to attend a reception for their granddaughter, Allison Phillips, who graduated Saturday from Kansas State University. Many other relatives and friends attended.

Adeline Bernhardt spent from Saturday to Monday house-sitting at the home of Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington, while the Hubbards, along with Dee Anna Stout and Gabby and Clint Hubbard, all of Wellington, went to Belton, Texas, to attend the wedding of Megan Ring, daughter of Paul and Diane Ring.

Amanda Baxa of Manhattan visited Leona Kleiber May 14. They were dinner guests of Andrea Klenda and Elijah and spent the afternoon with them.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended the junior-senior high school spring concert May 13 at Centre. Their grandson, Rustyn Kerbs, performed with the band and choir.

Steve Jirak and Ron Jirak took third and fourth places respectively in the Biggest Loser contest sponsored by Greenhaw Pharmacy, Hillsboro. Kris Srajer placed 18th. Steve actually lost the most weight of all those competing, but places were named on a percentage basis.

Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, and Betty Mueller attended the junior-senior high spring concert Tuesday evening at Centre.

Sunflower Senior Citizens met Tuesday for their monthly potluck and meeting. Those present were Jim and Mary Clemmer, Tom and Dee Duggan, Margaret Jirak, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, and Tillie Hein.

Julie Rziha and Tye Remy were awarded Musician of the Year plaques at the spring concert Tuesday evening.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer, Lisa Hanschu, Greg Stenzel and Betty Stenzel attended the junior-senior high spring concert Tuesday evening at Centre. Nikki Stenzel and Anna Weber were among the students performing. All except Lisa and Anna went out for pizza after the program.

The Tampa community grieves with the family of Magdalene Bentz. Her funeral was Friday at Saint John Lutheran Church here.

Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence, Earl and Ruth Pankratz of Newton and their daughter Beverly of Butte, Mont., in Marion Monday for dinner out.

Darla Hall and Adam of Lee's Summit, Mo., were weekend guests of Tom and Dee Duggan. Darla and Adam brought the news that they had attended the celebration and parade honoring American Idol's David Cook at Blue Springs, Mo., and Darla got his autograph. On Saturday Dee, Darla, and Deb attended the Mother's Day tea at Ramona. Deb and Dee won prizes for the most authentic bird costumes. After the tea they joined Tom, Adam, and Kaylee at a graduation party for Andrew Dillon in Hope. On Sunday all toured the Eisenhower Museum at Abilene.

Mother's Day dinner guests of Gary and Carole Spohn were Georgia Spohn, Steve Spohn, and Sheri Kersh.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita and Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro spent Mother's Day with Lois Sklenar.

Dolores Scott of Emporia and Pamela Fillmore of Cottonwood Falls took Tillie Hein to Abilene Sunday. Rebecca Nottingham, Eric and Emily met them their for Mother's Day dinner out.

Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna, Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, and Frank and Anna Mae Stika attended church together Sunday and then enjoyed dinner out in Salina. Anna Mae also got Mother's Day greetings by phone from Tom Moldenhauer.

Bev and Tom Reid of Marion, Jennifer and Mike Jay and Cody of Hillsboro, Paul and Edna Backhus, and Brad Backhus enjoyed Mother's Day dinner out in Abilene. Later, all except Paul and Brad went to Salina to visit Ron and Jody Heath, Danielle and Tyler.

Jeanne Rziha spent from Friday morning to Monday evening in Atchison getting acquainted with her new granddaughter, Anna Rziha, visiting John and Jeanne Rziha and family and David and Caterina Rziha and family and helping with household chores.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna attended a graduation reception for Taylor Sly in Hope Saturday.

Adeline Bernhardt spent from Friday to Monday with Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington. Additional Sunday dinner guests were Clint Hubbard and Donna Hubbard of Wellington.

Gary and Carole Spohn spent Saturday with Ryan Spohn in Manhattan and helped him floor his kitchen.

Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki attended the Mother's Day tea in Ramona Saturday.

Kristine Jirak was awarded the Leo Jirak Memorial Scholarship at the FFA banquet Thursday evening.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki met Millie Rowe at Herington May 7 and attended the Tabitha Circle's salad supper.

Tampa women and their daughters, granddaughters, and guests attending the women's salad supper at the Durham Baptist Church Wednesday evening were Mildred Hamm, Sharon Schrag, Eleanor Herbel, Christine Herbel, Kristi Krispense, Kaitlyn and Karolyn, Paula Herbel, Danea, Karina, and Calabria, Autumn Chisholm, Keli Chisholm, Kara Chisholm, Becky Evans and Katie, and Jane Vajnar.

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League met May 7 with Joyce Medley as hostess. Pastor Clark Davis led the topic, and Joyce gave opening and closing devotions. Others present were Kathy Davis, Cindy Bentz, Edna Mueller, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, Betty Mueller, Phyllis Mueller, and Edna Backhus.
