Many people around Tampa have been busy harvesting wheat, which accounts for the paucity of news. It was a short and meager harvest. Most farmers are already finished. Estimates are that the average yield was less than 20 bushels per acre, ranging from six or seven to 30. Some long-time farmers report it was the worst crop they ever saw. If you wonder why people do keep farming, the answer is probably in the farmer's eternal optimism. One grower commented, "Oh, it will be better next year."
