Ronald Mueller, fire chief, has announced that the fire district has been approved for two Federal Emergency Management Agency grants totaling $150,000. The grants will cost the district only five percent in matching funds. The money will be used for a tanker and wildfire gear, which will be used by the firefighters when fighting grass fires.

Everett and Rhea Kolling of Herington, Joe and Joyce Cox of Abilene, and Tom and Dee Duggan attended the production of "Greater Tuna," Wednesday afternoon at the Great Plains Theater in Abilene.

Tampa was a very lively place over the weekend, when the men's slow pitch softball tournament was held here. The Tampa Too team took first place by defeating Peabody in two back-to-back games Sunday afternoon. Softball fans can enjoy another weekend of fun Aug. 25-26, when the Tampa field will be the venue for a coed softball tournament.

Lynn and Peggy Kleiber of Salina and Tim and Amanda Baxa of Manhattan were weekend guests of Leona Kleiber. Nicholas Kleiber was a guest of Dale and Andrea Klenda.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of George and Pauline Kristek in Salina Saturday.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki and a friend enjoyed dinner out in Herington Sunday.

Many Tampa people, as well as relatives and friends from out of town, attended the wedding of Kristin Mueller and Eric Bunnel Saturday in Pilsen, followed by a dinner and dance.

Paul and Edna Backhus were among those attending the golden wedding celebration for George and Pauline Kristek Saturday in Salina.

Carl Hubbard and Gabrielle Stout of Wellington were Aug. 16 dinner and afternoon guests of Adeline Bernhardt.

Supper guests of Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion Saturday evening were Captain Anthony and Sara Hanson of Fayetteville, N.C., Ron and Tammi Vinduska of Topeka, Ruby Vinduska of St. Luke Living Center in Marion, Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas of Salina, Dale and Andrea Klenda, Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik, Tanner and Allie, and Leona Kleiber. They were celebrating Anthony's homecoming after serving for a year in Iraq. Dean and Becky Routh, Melody, Allison, and Danielle of Augusta were unable to be present, as they were attending the National Fine Arts Competition sponsored by the Assembly of God church in Indianapolis, Ind. The family was there to support Allison as she competed with her mountain dulcimer; she received a superior rating. All three girls were able to attend the National Youth Convention — Indy '07.

Kaylee Hall of Herington was a Friday overnight and Saturday guest of her grandparents, Tom and Dee Duggan, and accompanied them when they worked in the concession stand at the tournament Saturday morning.

Saturday visitors of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Kodi Kelsey of Marion, Lisa Hanschu and Anna, and two of Anna's friends.

Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik, Tanner and Allie were hosts for a barbecue supper Friday evening to celebrate Captain Anthony Hanson's homecoming from Iraq and Daniel's birthday. Guests were Anthony and Sara Hanson of Fayetteville, N.C., Terry and Cindy Vinduska and Ruby Vinduska of Marion, Candee Thode of Wichita, Frances Stuchlik, Monty and Sarah Stuchlik, Ross and Megan Stuchlik, and Leona Kleiber. Tim and Amanda Baxa joined them after the Mueller-Bunnel wedding rehearsal dinner. Birthday cake, cupcakes, and ice cream were served.

Paul and Edna Backhus visited Vic Backhus of Herington and his houseguests, Bill and Ruth Taylor of Shawnee, Aug. 8.

Tom Duggan attended the memorial service for his cousin, John Comes, Aug. 3 in Derby.
