Sunflower Senior Citizens met Tuesday at the senior center for a potluck dinner, business meeting, and card bingo. Members present included Jim and Mary Clemmer, Tom and Dee Duggan, Frank Patton, Shirley Zaideman, Tillie Hein, Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, Margaret Jirak, and Jane Vajnar. Guests were Carol Zaideman, Kent Becker, and Chris Costello.

Leona Kleiber visited Pearl Belton Tuesday afternoon.

Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki and a friend and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna took Frank and Anna Mae Stika out for dinner in Herington Sunday in celebration of Grandparents' Day.

Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn met their cousins, Ronald and Irene Pankratz from Oregon, Earl and Ruth Pankratz of Newton and their son Charlie, Lenora Graham and Greg and Teresa Graham of Florence, and Orlin and Norma Wagner of Wichita for supper out in Newton Sunday evening. The occasion was a get-together to honor the out-of-state cousins and celebrate Georgia's and Lenora's birthdays.

Willlis and Eleanor Herbel, Gus and Mildred Hamm, and Jane Vajnar were among those attending the birthday supper at the Durham Baptist Church Sunday evening. Entertainment was brought by the Lighthouse Quartet.

Amanda Baxa of Manhattan was a Sunday dinner guest of her grandmother, Leona Kleiber. In the afternoon Leona was pleasantly and totally surprised when Becky Routh, Melody and Danielle of Augusta, Cindy Vinduska of Marion, Melissa Stuchlik and Andrea Klenda of Pilsen joined them to celebrate Grandparents' Day. They brought flowers, ice cream, and brownies. Leona also received calls from her grandchildren who could not be here.

Kaylee Hall of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan met Deb Hall of Herington in Marion Saturday evening and attended Jocelyn Cardenas's 15th birthday party. Kaylee returned home with her mother.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended the funeral of Elmer Weyand Saturday morning at the Broadway Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. Burial was at the Westlawn Garden of Memories with an honor guard from Fort Riley. After the service they joined other relatives for lunch.

Barney Bernhardt of Wichita was a Saturday afternoon visitor of Adeline Bernhardt.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer were among those attending the Hope Heritage Festival on Saturday.

Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro and Lois Sklenar accompanied Lucy Young to Springfield, Mo., for the weekend. They got together with other relatives, including Tony Young of Goessel. Greg Sklenar of Wichita spent the weekend at Lois's home here doing some work for her.

Tom and Dee Duggan met Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington in Lost Springs Friday evening for supper out. Kaylee came home with them to spend the night.

Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber joined relatives and friends Sept. 5 for the graveside service for Max F. Bura, at Saint Mary's Cemetery with Father Hien Nguyen officiating.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended a dinner meeting of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees at Herington Thursday evening.

Jerry and Jeanne Rziha are the proud grandparents of John Gabriel Herron, born Aug. 31 to Jim and Diane Herron of Topeka. John was welcomed into the world by three siblings, Andrew, 6: Peter, 4; and Maria, 1 1/2. He weighed 7 pounds 1 ounce. His paternal grandfather is Floyd Herron of Wichita. Great-grandmothers are Bonnie Haslouer of Abilene and Gertrude Rziha of Great Bend.

The Tampa Community Association met Aug. 29, at the senior center. Teresa Huffman, Marion County economic development director was a guest; she offered helpful suggestions and support. The group assessed the two softball tournaments and judged them a success, estimating that around 300 people were in town for the men's tournament. Plans were made for the Santa Fe Trail Fest Oct. 14. Entertainment will feature "Trail Song Willie" (Harold Williams). He will sing songs of the trails with Virginia Bentz supplementing them with information about the trails. Other activities will include a wiener roast, pie sale by the Leos, hayrack ride behind Jonas Frantz's Belgians, cake walk, and stick horse rodeo. There will be a short TCA meeting downtown at 7 p.m. Sept. 22, to finalize the SFTF plans, and a meeting Oct. 26 to review the Fest and make plans for winter activities.
