Margaret Jirak and her family enjoyed a get-together Sunday at the American Legion hall. She was especially thankful that all 12 of her children could be there, along with a number of spouses and grandchildren. Those present included Bill and Marie Davis of Yulke, Fla., Bob and Flo Rahn of Hillsboro, Irene Horine of Montrose, Colo., Leonard and Linda Jirak of Hartford, Aminda Brunner of Hays, Ann Collins of Williamsburg, Mike and Glenda Jirak of Glade, Mark Jirak, Anna, Andrew, and Joseph of Atchison, Greg and Jackie Jirak, Ethan, Heidi, Emma, Leo, Pius, and Ivan of Oakley, Francis and Mary Jirak, Jesse and Rita Brunner, Ron and Rose Jirak, and Steve and Vickie Jirak, Raschelle, Seth, Jacob, and Elias.

Kristine Jirak and Julie Rziha are among 16 Centre High School students attending the national FFA convention in Indianapolis, Ind., from Tuesday through Saturday of this week. Kristine is representing Kansas in the speech contest.

Prairie Pals met Tuesday evening in the Lutheran church basement with Virginia Bentz and Michele Berens as hostesses. Each member attending brought soup and a talent number to share. Others present included Mary Clemmer, Iona Dietrich, Linda Ihde, Lori Meyer, Jeanne Rziha, Melissa Stuchlik and Jane Vajnar.

Tillie Hein was a Monday evening supper guest of Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. All enjoyed cake and ice cream in celebration of Grant's 12th birthday.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs took Russ Kerbs out for breakfast in Durham Tuesday morning in celebration of his birthday.

Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence in Hillsboro Monday. They attended Learning in Retirement at Tabor College and enjoyed dinner out. Dr. Arthur Dyck was the lecturer at Tabor on the ethics of euthanasia and assisted suicide.

Adeline Bernhardt spent from Friday to Monday with Carl and Kathy Hubbard at Wellington. On Sunday afternoon they all joined about 30 other relatives and friends at the home of Chris and Dee Anna Stout and Gabrielle in Wellington to help Gabrielle celebrate her fifth birthday.

Tom Duggan visited Darla Hall and Adam in Lee's Summit, Mo., Sunday.

The Knights of Columbus breakfast Sunday at the senior center was a big success. Entertainment was furnished by the "Sisters of Hope," who sang and danced costumed as nuns.

Tillie Hein accompanied Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole to Wichita Sunday for Grant's final baseball games with the Cottonwood Valley All-Stars. His team won both games.

Sunday dinner guests of Paul and Edna Backhus were Jennifer and Mike Jay and Kelsie Penner of Hillsboro, Brad Backhus, Jason Backhus, and Kevin Mueller. The occasion was a celebration of Jason's birthday.

Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik and Tanner were hosts for a birthday party at their home Sunday in honor of Allie Stuchlik's second birthday. After Allie opened her gifts, an Elmo cake, cupcakes, and ice cream were served to Ruby Vinduska of Saint Luke Living Center in Marion, Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion, James and children Jenna and Kerie and Candee Thode of Wichita, Monte and Sarah Stuchlik, Ross and Megan Stuchlik, Kelly and Heather Steiner and Kenide, and Leona Kleiber. Later, a barbecue supper was served.

Glenn and Eloise Kerbs of Dodge City were Saturday overnight guests of his parents, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs. Rustyn Kerbs joined them for supper at the café on Saturday. Additional Sunday dinner guests were Jesse and Ashton Smith of Pilsen and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn.

There was a powder puff football game at Centre Thursday with the senior girls competing at flag football with the underclass girls. Julie Rziha, Bermet Zhumakadyr kyzy, Amy Hajek, and Aurora Salamone played. Rustyn Kerbs was one of the football players who coached.

Tony Young of Goessel visited Lois Sklenar on Saturday.

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League of the Herington zone met for their fall workshop at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marion Saturday. Those from the Saint John's and Trinity churches at Tampa and Ramona who attended included Pastor Clark and Kathy Davis, Leona Kleiber, Joyce Medley, Shirley Zaideman, and Paula Fike.

Wayne Rziha, Cecilia and Anthony of Tulsa, Okla., spent from Thursday to Sunday with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, Julie and Bermet. Susie Rziha and Christine Isaac of Wichita joined them on Thursday evening and attended the powder puff football game.

Paul and Edna Backhus was among those attending a birthday party for Lisa Hanschu Saturday evening at her home.

Reuben Kerbs attended the funeral of Dorothy Steinle Saturday afternoon at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.

Ryan Spohn, Adam and Lauren, Steve Spohn, Sheri Kersh, Gary and Carole Spohn, and Georgia Spohn enjoyed supper at the café Friday evening in celebration of Gary's and Ryan's birthdays,

Those from this area attending the annual Marion County senior citizens board meeting at Marion Thursday were Tom and Dee Duggan, Adeline Bernhardt, Tillie Hein, Martha Melcher, Margaret Jirak, Magdalen Dvorak, Iona Dietrich, and Jane Vajnar.

Paul and Edna Backhus went to a Halloween polka party at Marion County Lake Saturday afternoon.

Tampa has been receiving generous amounts of rain since Friday. At least half of it was very welcome.

The annual Santa Fe Trail Fest was a success in spite of inclement weather. It was possible to have the stick horse rodeo and several hayrides before the rain started, but some other outdoor activities were cut short. The entertainment by "Trail Song Willie" and historian Virginia Bentz and the cake walk were thoroughly enjoyed inside the senior center. The wiener roast was converted to a hot dog feed with the wieners boiled in the senior center kitchen. This is the first time weather has interfered with the event, and those attending seemed well able to "go with the flow."

Frank and Anna Mae Stika and Ronnie Hanschu and James attended the junior high volleyball game Monday evening to watch Anna Weber play.

Georgia Spohn met her cousin, Lenora Graham of Florence, in Hillsboro Monday morning. They attended the Learning in Retirement program at Tabor College and enjoyed lunch out. The speaker at Learning in Retirement was Wilma Wall, novelist who wrote "Forbidden" and "Jade Bracelet." After lunch Georgia visited Marguerite Goertz of Hillsboro and her daughter Benita, who is here spending some time with her mother.

Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, Megan Stuchlik, Melissa Stuchlik, and Sarah Stuchlik attended a party Tuesday evening at the home of Cindy Vinduska in Marion.

Relatives here have received word of the death of George Leihy on Saturday. He was the father of Tom Leihy, former Tampa resident. His family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.

Lois Sklenar took her daughter, Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro, out for lunch Monday as an early celebration of Valerie's birthday.

Members of the Kleiber family met at the Tabor College cafeteria Sunday for a family reunion. All enjoyed visiting in the afternoon. Those present included Bob and Phyl Kenney, Bob and Dana Wendling, and Neva Heidebrecht of Lincoln, Neb., Bob and Lola Ruth Clark of Cook Station, Mo., Dean and Becky Routh, Melody, Allison, and Danielle of Augusta, Leland Seifert of Marion, Barbara Wuthnow of Manchester, John and Lucille Heiser of Herington, Charles and Ruth Heiser and Leona Kleiber.

Sunday dinner guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna. Ice cream and cake were served in an early celebration of Lisa's birthday.

Craig and Teresa Srajer of Moline, Ill., came Saturday to spend several days here visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. On Sunday they went to Wichita to watch Grant play on the Cottonwood Valley All-Star baseball team.

Jeanne Rziha, Julie and Bermet attended Hyllningsfest in Lindsborg Saturday. They met Susie Rziha and Christine Isaacson of Wichita and enjoyed dinner together. Susie accompanied them here for the weekend. Cecilia Rziha of Wichita joined them on Sunday and took Susie home.

Bob and Phyl Kenney and Bill and Dana Wendling of Lincoln, Neb., were Saturday supper and evening guests of Leona Kleiber.

The Holy Redeemer Altar Society enjoyed a dinner meeting at the café Friday evening with Carla Hajek as hostess. Others present were Monica Svoboda, Dee Duggan, Martha Melcher, Tillie Hein, Teresa Tajchman, Francie Mueller, Vickie Jirak, Kris Srajer, Susan Wallace, Kathy Kroupa, Mary Ann Frantz, Kim Oborny, Kathy Oborny, and Candace Tajchman.

Tom and Dee Duggan went to Clay Center Friday for a National Association of Retired Federal Employees seminar.

Leona Kleiber was a Thursday supper guest of Andrea and Dale Klenda.

Jane Vajnar took first place in the state senior citizens spelling bee in Salina Thursday. Kim Frantz went to cheer her on, and they enjoyed dinner at the senior center with Kim's aunt, Judi Dunn. Jane will compete in the national bee at Cheyenne, Wyo., next June.

Lori Moldenhauer played the organ for the Schultz-French wedding Oct. 6 at Rock Springs Ranch.
