Two former Tampa residents recently proved the cliché that it is a small world. Mary Rhodes has been active through her church for several years in efforts to establish schools in Ethiopia. Upon her retirement she decided to go to Ethiopia and view these efforts first hand. When she heard about an organization called Ethiopia Reads, which is trying to establish small libraries, she decided to check it out and see if the two organizations could cooperate in their educational programs. When she fell into conversation with a young American woman, she discovered that Dana Wedel had also grown up in the Tampa community only a few miles from Rhodes's childhood home.

Several stop signs in this part of the county have been mysteriously knocked down. The signs have been replaced, but authorities have not discovered how they were knocked over.

The community Christmas party at the senior center Sunday evening was well attended. Santa Claus came to pass out treats to the children and hear their Christmas requests. Other entertainment included carol singing, a craft table for the children, games, and snacks. The Leos are planning a soup supper for the first Sunday in January, and a game night will follow.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita was a Sunday overnight guest of his mother, Lois Sklenar.

At an FFA speaking and job interview competition Saturday at Centre High School, Kristine Jirak placed second in the job interview contest, and Nellie Hill placed first in extemporaneous speaking. Both qualified for state competition.

Kristin Srajer of Omaha, Neb., spent from Thursday to Sunday here visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole.

Patty, Elizabeth, and Laurie Ingalls and Helen Costello of Mulvane met a group of Marion County women Thursday in Hillsboro for dinner out. Others present were Tillie Hein, Dee Duggan, Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, Eleanor Herbel, Bonnie Crandall, Lorene Kleiber, Shirley Hamm, and Beryl Steiner. The group was celebrating the December birthdays of Helen and Shirley.

Members of the Red Hat Society joined others Saturday on a tour bus to Wamego. They visited several museums, attended the Christmas Spectacular at the Columbia Theater, and enjoyed supper out. Tampa women attending were Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, and Dee Duggan.
