If you missed seeing the Tampa news in last week's paper, there was a moderately good reason. Your correspondent had cataract surgery Dec. 11. On the day she should have been collecting news, her close-up vision was still a bit blurry. That also is the reason some of this week's news is not very new.

Nikki Stenzel is one of 18 Leo members worldwide chosen by the Lions Club as Leos of the Year in recognition of her contributions to the service activities of Centre Leos and her efforts to bring in new members.

Dee Duggan attended the funeral of Shirley Burwell Wednesday in Herington.

Ryan Spohn of Manhattan was a Wednesday visitor of Georgia Spohn and Gary and Carole Spohn.

Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber enjoyed dinner out in Salina Tuesday.

The Tampa community is saddened by the death on Monday of Fred Moffitt of McPherson. Coming to Tampa as a teen-ager, Moffitt spent most of his 96 years here before moving to McPherson a few years ago. He was the Tampa postmaster for many years and also had a long tenure as city clerk.

Many Tampa people attended the Centre High School winter concert Tuesday evening.

Leona Kleiber was a Monday supper guest of Adeline Bernhardt. After supper, Leona joined Dennis and Terry Klenda and Tyler, Andrea Kleiber, and Amanda Baxa at Dale Klenda's home for birthday cake and ice cream in celebration of Andrea's birthday.

The Holy Redeemer Altar Society enjoyed their Christmas dinner Monday evening at the home of Candace Tajchman with Theresa Tajchman and Vickie Jirak as assisting hostesses. Susan Wallace won the door prize. Others present were Catherine Hajek, Carla Hajek, Tillie Hein, Martha Melcher, Rose Jirak, Virginia Beltz, Monica Svoboda, Jeanne Rziha, Gwenn Belton, Dee Duggan, Francie Mueller, Mary Jirak, Margaret Jirak, and Mary Ann Frantz.

Cecelia Rziha arrived here Friday to spend her Christmas break with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie. She spent Saturday and Sunday in Ingalls to attend the wedding of Simeon Willis and Leah Van Nahmen.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and Anna were among those attending the CHS winter concert Tuesday evening. James Weber and Nikki Stenzel were in the program and Nikki received a mathematics award. All went out for pizza after the program.

Andrea Kleiber was a Monday dinner and afternoon guest of her grandmother, Leona Kleiber.

Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence in Marion Friday for dinner out.

Jane Vajnar spent the weekend with Marc and Wendy Stroede of Kanopolis. Meghann Bunch, Iris, Shannon, and Joseph were visitors of the Stroedes during her stay. Jane also called on Berniece Burwell of Salina, Jon and Wanda Sneath of Carneiro, and Margaret Gourley of Ellsworth.

Dee Duggan attended the elementary school winter program at Herington Dec. 12. Her granddaughter, Kaylee Hall was one of the students performing.

Several members of Prairie Pals went Christmas caroling Dec. 12, then returned to St. John Lutheran Church basement for snacks and a game of Taboo. Those participating were Jeanne Rziha, Laveta Meyer, Lori Meyer, Virginia Bentz, Tyler Bentz, and Jane Vajnar.

Sunflower Senior Citizens celebrated Christmas with dinner out in Durham Dec. 12, then returned to the senior center for their business meeting. They played card bingo for prizes, and Bonnie Crandall won the door prize. Hostesses were the officers, Margaret Jirak, Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, and Magdalen Dvorak. Magdalen could not be present, but helped with the preparations. Others present were Jim Clemmer, Lois Sklenar, Shirley Zaideman, Tillie Hein, Martha Melcher, Ruby Vinduska, and Jane Vajnar. Mary Clemmer joined them for the meeting and games at the center.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki attended the Tabitha Society Christmas party Dec. 13 in Herington.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended the children's Christmas program, "A Season for Giving," at Emanuel Methodist Church in Abilene Dec. 10. Her granddaughter, Taylor Thompson, was one of the children performing. Doug and Connie Thompson also were present and all went out to eat afterward.

Tom and Dee Duggan, Adeline Bernhardt, and Leona Kleiber joined other members and spouses of the Shady Ladies Red Hat Society for a Christmas dinner Dec. 6 at Hilltop Community Center, Herington.

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League Christmas supper was held Dec. 7 in the church basement with Kathy Davis, Janet Bielefeld, and Adeline Bernhardt as hostesses. Joyce Medley was in charge of the program, which included a devotion led by Pastor Clark Davis and group singing of Christmas carols. A love gift was sent to the Children Christmas Concern Society. Jennifer Jay, Lucille Kerbs, and Paula Cox were guests. Others present were Edna Backhus, Cindy Bentz, Leona Kleiber,, Alma Meyer, Betty Mueller, Edna Mueller, and Phyllis Mueller.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene Dec. 9 to see "A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas" at the Great Plains Theater. Connie Thompson joined them. Taylor Thompson was on the stage crew.
