The Shady Ladies chapter of the Red Hat Society celebrated their third anniversary Tuesday with a luncheon tea at Cousins Corner Bed and Breakfast in Ramona.

The B&B was the site of the group's first meeting in August 2003. Dee Duggan, queen mother, was the hostess, and Rhea Kolling of Herington, vice queen, provided the table decorations. The menu consisted of tea sandwiches, pecan raspberry salad with kiwi fruit, lemon cream scones, chocolate mocha cheesecake, peach ice tea, and an assortment of hot teas prepared by Jessica Gilbert and Pat Wick.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to Rhea Kolling and Helen Sorenson. The women enjoyed reminiscing as they viewed scrapbooks put together by Dee and Helen. The group also had many laughs as they viewed a picture CD of the past three years. Door prizes provided by the hostess were won by Leona Kleiber and Karolyn Schlesener. Others in attendance were Joyce Cox, Adeline Bernhardt, Betty Schlesener, Ramona Goracke, Alice Bell, Phyllis Allen, Rose Mary Deines, Sue McIntyre, Anita Hummel, and Liz Monnington.

Family members of Martha Melcher took her out for dinner Tuesday in Junction City to celebrate her birthday. Guests were Vicki Becker, Cody Melcher, Kim McCray, Brenda Klineschmidt, Kelly Melcher, and Scott Melcher.

The Davis team won the co-ed softball tournament held here Saturday and Sunday. Eight teams participated, and Carla Hajek, one of the organizers for the event, called it a definite success. Proceeds from the tournament will go toward improvements at the park and ball diamond. Planned projects include enclosing the shelter house at the ark and building a restroom facility at the ball field.

Ideal weather heightened the pleasure of the crowd attending the Tampa State Bank hog roast Saturday evening. The Tampa High School class of 1946 was having a class reunion, and class members present were introduced. Of the class of 14, nine are still living, and seven were present. Those attending were Betty (Wiley) Miles of Livermore, Calif., Mildred (Teetzen) Albrecht of Emporia, Lorraine (Hajek) Wall of Topeka, Don Kerbs of Wichita, Catherine (Costello) Hajek, and Art and Betty (Popp) Mueller. Weekend guests of Martha Melcher were Doris Morgan, Jerry and Margo Morgan and Katie, Robert and Teresa Morgan and Robbie and Jordan Morgan of Monette, Mo. The occasion was an early celebration of Martha's birthday, which was Tuesday.

They all attended some of the games of the softball tournament and the hog roast. Don Kerbs and Betty Hayes of Wichita stopped to visit following his 60th class reunion held at the senior center.
