A number of Tampa young people had the opportunity to shine Friday evening at a talent night at Centre. Extended learning projects were on display, including a roller coaster built by Jacob Jirak. In the Centre stage portion of the evening Julie Rziha sang the songs she would sing the following day at the state music festival. Nikki Stenzel performed an oral interpretation selection she will take to the state forensics meet, as well as a solo acting piece. Aurora Salamone sang in two duets with Ida Saadon. Julie, Kristine Jirak, Jackie Klenda, and Kevin Mueller performed in skits and lip sync numbers, and several local students sang in the choirs (boys', girls', and mixed). A movie written, produced, and directed by Rachel Davis and Tad Remy topped off the evening. Kevin Mueller was in the cast of "Why Do Chickens Always Have the Biggest Beaks?"

Many Tampa people went down to the railroad tracks Wednesday morning to watch the steam-powered train go through and wave at the crew. Some got a close-up look at the train with its old steam locomotive while it was in Herington.

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League sponsored a women's night out Wednesday evening for the women of St. John's Lutheran Church with dinner at the cafe. Those present were Kathy Davis, Michele Berens, Joyce Medley, Shirley Hein, Lois Sklenar, Adeline Bernhardt, Lucille Kerbs, Cindy Bentz, Leona Kleiber, Alma Meyer, Edna Mueller, Edna Backhus, Betty Mueller, Phyllis Mueller, and Janet Bielefeld.

A Centre High School team consisting of Kristine Jirak, Julie Rziha, Nellie Hill, and Tye Remy placed second Tuesday in the state in an agricultural sales contest in the state FFA contest at Manhattan. In individual scores Julie received a medal for eighth place. The agri-business team took first with Jackie Klenda placing first overall. Other members of that team were Tad Remy, Joseph Stroda, and Jeremy Kristek.

Tom and Dee Duggan went to Herington Monday evening to see the steam locomotive and attend Kaylee Hall's soccer game.

Visitors of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs during Reuben's recuperation were Ashton Smith of Salina, Duane and Shirley Hamm of Hillsboro, Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn, Adeline Bernhardt, and Leona Kleiber. Reuben also has appreciated receiving many cards and phone calls.

Donald and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., spent from Sunday to Wednesday here visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. They attended the Centre-Herington soccer game Monday evening, when Cole played on the winning Centre team. They all went to Herington Tuesday to see the steam locomotive and then watched Grant's soccer game, which ended in a tie between Centre and Hope. Chad Mueller accompanied them.

Kaylee Hall of Herington was a Sunday overnight guest of Tom and Dee Duggan. They were evening visitors of Dave Mueller and Danny Williamson, and Kaylee was delighted with their farm animals.

Larry and Ella Rudolph of Belle Plaine visited Saturday with Frank and Anna Mae Stika.

Andrea Kleiber of Manhattan and Leona Kleiber enjoyed breakfast out Saturday morning.

Julie Rziha earned a II rating for vocal solo at the state music festival Saturday at Wichita.

Georgia Spohn and Gary and Carole Spohn enjoyed dinner out Sunday after church.

Tom and Dee Duggan met Deb Hall at a Herington restaurant Sunday evening for supper out.

Edna Backhus attended a home and garden party Friday evening at the home of Jennifer Jay near Hillsboro.

George Brunner of Fulton, Mo., was a Friday visitor of Frank and Anna Mae Stika.

Tom and Dee Duggan went to Topeka Friday and stayed overnight. They met Darla Hall and Adam and Sean Winter of Lee's Summit, Mo., and all attended Adam's swim meet Saturday at the Hummer Sports Complex. The Duggans visited Don and Betty Frick Friday evening and the Fricks also came to the meet.
