Tampa: Bernhardt s daughter receives GEM award

Kathy Hubbard, daughter of Adeline Bernhardt and the late Ted Bernhardt, recently was awarded the GEM (going the extra mile) award by Wellington Chamber of Commerce. She was nominated by the family of one of her third grade students at Eisenhower School, who paid tribute to her kindness and caring and a willingness to give extra time to lend a helping hand.

Sunday dinner guests of Adeline Bernhardt in celebration of Grandparents' Day were Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington, Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan, and John and Debra Haynes, Hailey and Heather of Wichita.

Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie were Sunday dinner guests of John and Jeanne Rziha, Michael, Christopher, Joseph, Timothy, and Thomas at Atchison. Emilio and Janie Aita were additional guests. All helped Christopher celebrate his seventh birthday.

Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn were Sunday after-church visitors of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs.

Several Tampa people attended the harvest mission festival Sunday evening at Strassburg Baptist Church to hear Royce and Sue Baron, missionaries in Mexico City.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna, and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki attended the Kansas State Fair Saturday in Hutchinson as an early celebration of Grandparents' Day.

Tom and Dee Duggan brought Kaylee Hall of Herington Friday evening to Tampa to spend the night. On Saturday they took her to her dance lesson and to the festival at Hope before taking her home. Later the Duggans returned to Hope where they and Gary Schneider rode in the parade representing the Tampa Lions. They then enjoyed the Lions Club barbecue and music in the park.

Jane Vajnar attended the ice cream social Friday evening at the senior center in Hillsboro followed by music by Bob and the Boys.

Andrea Kleiber of El Dorado, Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, and Leona Kleiber attended the Centre-Goessel junior high football game Thursday evening. Nicholas Kleiber was playing.

Mildred Hamm, Autumn Chisholm, Eleanor Herbel, and Jane Vajnar were among those attending the King's Daughters meeting Thursday evening at Durham Baptist Church. Shirley Hamm presented a mission study. Ruth Hamm led a lesson on Mary and Martha. Eleanor and Paula Herbel were hostesses.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs were among those attending the junior high football game Thursday evening. Their grandson, Rustyn Kerbs, was playing.

St. John's Lutheran Women's Missionary League met Sept. 7 at the church. Pastor Clark Davis led the topic. Adeline Bernhardt was hostess. Others present were Kathy Davis, Edna Mueller, Phyllis Mueller, Leona Kleiber, Cindy Bentz, Betty Mueller, Edna Backhus, and Janet Bielefeld.

Bev Reid of Marion County Lake, Jennifer Jay of Hillsboro, and Edna Backhus attended the Labor Day parade at Florence. Tom Reid and Mike Jay also were in attendance, but went earlier for the horseshoe tournament.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna attended Labor Day festivities at Burdick. Nikki, James, and Anna marched in the parade.

A cousins' get-together Sept. 4 featured supper out in Newton. Those attending included Ronald and Irene Pankratz of Bend, Ore., Earl and Ruth Pankratz of Newton, Donna and Velber Bevans of Hutchinson, J.D. and Gloria Pankratz of Kansas City, Charlie Pankratz of Emporia, Lenora Graham of Florence, and Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn. Ronald and Irene brought a decorated cake in celebration of Lenora's and Georgia's September birthdays.

Cindy Vinduska of Marion and Leona Kleiber accompanied Lynn and Peggy Kleiber Sept. 4 to Augusta to visit Dean and Becky Routh, Melody, Allison, and Danielle. Refreshments were served. When the Kleibers returned to Tampa, Andrea Kleiber had prepared supper for her family. Leona and Casey Kristek were their guests.

Relatives from this area attended a housewarming Sept. 4 at the new home of John and Wanda Lewis, Paul, Sarah, and Luke in Andover. Guests included Bev and Tom Reid of Marion County Lake, Jennifer and Mike Jay of Hillsboro, Ron and Jody Heath, Danielle and Tyler of Salina, Don and Ophelia Jacobson and Greg Jacobson of Hope, Paul and Edna Backhus, Phyllis Mueller, Rod Mueller, Brad Backhus, and Jason Backhus.
