Tampa: Christmas party and auction scheduled for Saturday

Don't forget the community Christmas party at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the senior center. Bring snacks to share. Santa will be there to pass out treats furnished by the Lions Club to the children. Entertainment will consist of bingo and singing Christmas carols. A silent auction will benefit the fund for park improvements; you are welcome to bring an item for the auction if you have something.

A number of Tampa people attended the memorial service for Dorman Becker Wednesday morning at Durham Baptist Church. Until his move to Hillsboro recently Dorman had been a lifelong resident of the Durham area. He will be sadly missed in this community.

Larry Hampton of Sierra Vista, Ariz., arrived Monday to spend Thanksgiving with his mother, Lois Sklenar. Greg Sklenar of Wichita and Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro planned to join them for Thanksgiving Day.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs, along with Barbara Stensaas and Connie Thompson of Abilene, were guests of Taylor Thompson Tuesday for dinner at Garfield Elementary School's grandparents day.

Ryan Spohn, Adam and Lauren arrived Sunday afternoon to stay through Thanksgiving with Gary and Carole Spohn.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki were among a large group of women attending a home and garden party Sunday afternoon at the home of Lisa Hanschu. Anna Weber assisted her mother as hostess.

Prairie Pals met Tuesday evening at the Lutheran church basement. Melissa Stuchlik and Iona Dietrich were hostesses. Others present were Virginia Bentz, Mary Clemmer, Laveta Meyer, Lori Meyer, Julie Noeth, and Jane Vajnar. Iona showed the group how to make cloth pumpkins. New officers chosen for 2006 were Jane Vajnar, president; Julie Noeth, vice president; and Lori Meyer, secretary-treasurer.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended the junior high basketball game at Hope Monday evening to watch their grandson, Rustyn Kerbs, play on the Centre team. Both Centre's teams won.

Sean Leihy of Hillsboro, Tom and Dee Duggan, Tillie Hein, and Martha Melcher attended the card party Sunday evening at Herington.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt spent Friday through Sunday on a tour with Heartland Travel to Branson, Mo. Shows they enjoyed included the Presleys' Country Jubilee, Yakov Smirnoff Christmas Show, Acrobats of China, the new Shanghai Circus, and Dino's Christmas Extravaganza. They also saw the Port of Christmas Lights at Kimberling City.

Tillie Hein was a Sunday supper guest of Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole in a belated celebration of Jim's birthday, which was Saturday.

Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn attended the Thanksgiving dinner following Sunday morning worship at the Christian church in Marion.

Many Tampa people attended the wedding Saturday afternoon of Melissa Brunner and Phil Florey at the Catholic church here, followed by a dinner and dance at the community building in Herington.

Lucille Kerbs met Connie Thompson and Taylor Saturday in Abilene and they went out for Chinese food.

Tillie Hein and Martha Melcher were Saturday supper guests of Scott and Dawn Melcher and family between attending the Brunner-Florey wedding and the dance. The occasion was a celebration of Darrell Melcher's 16th birthday.

Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole attended the Kansas State University game Saturday in celebration of Jim's birthday.
