Tampa City Council: Business is slow, meeting is short

Contributing writer

At the Tampa City Council meeting Nov. 7, there was more attention to work already accomplished than to problems needing solutions, as business was rather slow.

Donna Backhus, city clerk, pointed out that there was not enough money in the sewer fund to pay for flushing out the sewer and asked whether to transfer money from the general fund or to cash in a certificate of deposit. The council decided to transfer money from the general fund. If extra money is needed later, the CD still could be cashed.

The council discussed putting up the Christmas lights and decided to do that chore Saturday or Sunday.

There was a brief discussion of a couple of residents who have not paid their sewer fees, but no definite action was taken on the issue.

Among the bills approved for payment were $6,703.54 for flushing the sewer lines, $2,035.00 for risers for the manhole covers, $602.50 for the city's share of the asphalt used on the access road to the elevator, $185 for a waste water permit, and $39.95 for a new telephone.
