Tampa: Community asked to join scarecrow display

Members of the Tampa Community Association were given information Thursday evening about "Scarecrows on Parade." Individuals and businesses in Tampa, Lincolnville, Lost Springs, Burdick, and Ramona are urged to construct scarecrows and try to have them in place by Oct. 1. Ramona has featured scarecrows in October for the past five years, and they have attracted considerable favorable attention. This year the effort is expanding to the towns in the north end of the county. Commissioner Dan Holub will judge the creations Oct. 15. Some businesses are planning promotions for judging day.

Also at the meeting president Carole Spohn commended Mary Clemmer for planting flowers in the pots on Main Street and keeping them watered. Plants were paid for by Tampa State Bank.

A soil conservation group was served a meal Aug. 29 at the senior center by Iona Dietrich, Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, Spohn, and Clemmer. The group reflected on the successful mini-fair in July and made plans for the Santa Fe Trail Fest Oct. 9. That event will include music, games, hayrack ride/scarecrow tour, and a wiener roast.

Bill and Pam Fillmore of Cottonwood Falls were Sunday visitors of Tillie Hein. All enjoyed dinner out.

Florence Scanlan of Leguna Woods, Calif., and Rosemary Lewis of Wichita spent Labor Day weekend here visiting their sister, Catherine Hajek, and other relatives.

Susie Rziha of Independence and Cecilia Rziha of Hays spent Labor Day weekend with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie.

Lorraine Havlik of Marion was a Thursday morning visitor of Adeline Bernhardt.

Martin Hajek was admitted to Salina Regional Medical Center Thursday with an infection at the site of his recent knee surgery.

The community enjoyed Tampa State Bank's annual hog roast Aug. 27, followed by a street dance with Second Nature supplying the music.

Recent visitors of Leona Kleiber were Amanda Kleiber of Manhattan, Cindy Vinduska of Marion, and Andrea Kleiber of El Dorado.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita and Valerie Hampton were overnight guests Aug. 27 of their mother, Lois Sklenar, They attended the hog roast.

Julie Rziha and Allie Will went Thursday to Lebo to participate in their first cross country race of the season.

Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn attended visitation Aug. 30 for Leroy Roberts at Marion.

Jim and Mary Clemmer and Byron and Julie Noeth attended the Leadership Marion County graduation banquet Aug. 28 at Goessel. Byron was elected to the Leadership Marion County board.

Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber enjoyed dinner out Aug. 24 at Salina.

Dee Duggan, Mary Christiansen, Leona Kleiber, and Adeline Bernhardt, together with other members of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed brunch Aug. 25 at the home of Sue Mclntyre.

Adam and Lauren Spohn of Marlow, Okla., spent Aug. 18-23 here visiting Ryan Spohn of Manhattan, Gary and Carole Spohn, and Georgia Spohn. Gary and Carole took them home and returned Aug. 24.

Adeline Bernhardt spent the weekend of Aug. 20 with Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan in Wichita. Another guest was their grandson, Kevin Bernhardt of Marerro, La. Kevin accompanied Adeline to Tampa so he could visit his grandmother, Carol Kellogg of Herington.

Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna took Frank and Anna Mae Stika to Wichita Aug. 20 for the wedding of Brian Stika and Sasha Heimbach. Immediately after the ceremony Ronnie, Lisa, and James came back to attend the Kickhaefer wedding in Herington, where Lisa and her sister, Lori Moldenhauer, provided the music. Then Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki went to Wichita for the reception and dance following the Heimbach-Stika wedding. They stayed overnight and brought Frank, Anna Mae, and Anna home the next day.

Women enjoying dinner out Aug. 18 at McPherson were Eleanor Herbel, Helen Costello, Bonnie Crandall, Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, Dee Duggan, Agnes Steinert, Lorene Kleiber, and Beryl Steiner. They were celebrating the August birthdays of Agnes, Bonnie, Beryl, and Eleanor.

Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, Andrea and Nicholas and Amanda Kleiber and Tim Baxa of Manhattan were recent Sunday evening pizza guests of Leona Kleiber.

Donald and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., came Aug. 12, and Dolores Scott of Emporia joined them Saturday morning. Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole went with them to Enid Okla., where they attended a party Saturday evening at the country club for Alike Zaioudek's 100th birthday. On Sunday they joined other relatives for Mass followed by breakfast out and a luncheon at Zaioudek's home.

Adeline Bernhardt spent Aug. 11-15 with Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington. On Sunday they attended Calvary Lutheran Church and enjoyed dinner out. In the afternoon they went shopping in Derby.

Your correspondent is slowly getting on her feet again following her mastectomy. Thank you for your patience for this forced time out and for all the cards, visits, gifts, helpful deeds, and prayers. Good friends certainly lighten burdens.
