Tampa community makes plans for remainder of year

Members of the Tampa Community Association decided Tuesday to serve coffee and rolls at the senior center from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 10. Everyone is invited. They also began planning for the Christmas party to be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the senior center. Bring a snack to share. Activities will include carol singing and bingo. Santa will talk with the children and pass out treats furnished by the Lions Club. A silent auction will be held with proceeds going toward improvements at the park. The group also decided to cooperate with Prairie Pals in serving a soup dinner Nov. 12 which also is for the park fund.

A group of senior citizens took the tour bus Tuesday to Concordia. The outing was arranged by Tillie Hein and Jim Clemmer drove. Others participating were Mary Clemmer, Leona Kleiber, Ruby Vinduska, Adeline Bernhardt, Magdalen Dvorak, Margaret Jirak, Martha Melcher, Jane Vajnar, Mary Lou Kroupa, Betty Mueller, and Iona Dietrich.

Kevin Daily, nephew of Jim and Mary Clemmer, died of natural causes Tuesday morning at his home in Nickerson. Burial was at Neosho Rapids.

Those helping cheer Rustyn Kerbs on at the last junior high football game Monday evening were Ashton Smith of Salina, Russ and Julie Kerbs, and Reuben and Lucille Kerbs.

Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence Monday morning in Hillsboro. They attended the Learning in Retirement program at Tabor College and enjoyed dinner out. Lowell Ratzlaff presented the program with a video of the waterways of China.

Dawn Bentz, bride-elect of Jay Osborne, was honored Sunday afternoon with a bridal shower at St. John's Lutheran Church. Hostesses were Crysta Clymer and Jane Clymer. The fellowship hall was decorated with an autumn theme. Guests completed a trivia quiz about the bride and enjoyed refreshments. Special guests were the honoree's mother, Cindy Bentz, her grandmothers, Magdalene Bentz and Eva Anderson, her great-great-aunt, Leta Stroble, Anita Huff, Marilyn Keeler, Rosalie Lorson, Gloria Schultz, Jane Anderson, Gina Rigg, Angela Albin, and Adriane Schultz. Many other relatives and friends shared the event.

Visitors Sunday of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs were Jesse and Ashton Smith of Salina and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn.

Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn went to Salina Sunday afternoon for shopping and supper out.

Family members helped Lisa Hanschu celebrate her birthday Sunday with dinner out in Abilene. Others present were Ronnie Hanschu, James and Anna, Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, and Frank and Anna Mae Stika. They took dinner to Tom Moldenhauer at home, because he was recuperating from an injury.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt attended the bridal shower Sunday afternoon for Dawn Bentz.

Edna Backhus met Lucille Kliewer of California in Hillsboro Saturday morning for a gabfest. Lucille was the daughter of Waldo Wiebe, who was the pastor of the Mennonite church in Tampa during Edna's youth, and the two girls were childhood friends.

Jim and Mary Clemmer attended the Charles and Mary Holub family reunion Saturday at Pilsen Community Center. Margaret and Bob Grochowsky and Kathie Sutton, Alex, Meaghan, Kyle, and Abigail of Topeka also were present.

Leona Kleiber visited Saturday with Wilbert and Donna Backhus.

Dinner guests Saturday of Gary and Carole Spohn were Ryan Spohn of Manhattan, Steve Spohn of Hope, Sherry Kerch of Fayetteville, Ark., and Georgia Spohn.

Tom and Dee Duggan were weekend guests of Darla Hall and Adam of Lee's Summit, Mo. They enjoyed eating out, movies, and shopping. Adam was one of 10 students in his eighth grade class to earn the privilege of attending a special event Friday evening and invite a friend to accompany him.

Andrea Kleiber of El Dorado and Leona Kleiber enjoyed supper out Friday evening at Lost Springs.

Lucille Kerbs enjoyed dinner out Saturday with Connie Thompson and Taylor in Abilene.

Alex Sutton, great-grandson of Jim and Mary Clemmer, scored 99 percent in mathematics and comprehension on a recent SAT test. Duke University and about 400 other universities and colleges will track him for several years. He will be tested again in January 2006. Alex is a seventh grade student at Most Pure Heart Parochial School in Topeka.

Local women enjoyed a commercial party Thursday evening at the home of Lori Moldenhauer.

Tampa was host for a meeting of the Flint Hills Resource Conservation and Development Oct. 12. Speakers were the fire chief at Galva and a representative of Rural Development who works with fire districts to upgrade equipment with the result of lowering insurance rates for residents.
