Tampa: Community scores big in Scarecrows on Parade contest

Tampa showed up very well in the "Scarecrows on Parade" event. Of the six top prizes (three for residents and three for businesses), three went to Tampa people. Tom and Lori Moldenhauer took the top prize for residents with the "Busted Knuckle Garage" entry with Kathy Kilgore coming in second for the woman with the rototiller. The Tampa State Bank won second among businesses with their bank robber. Tim and Monica Svoboda's witch with attending ghosts was awarded honorable mention. A children's prize was awarded for each town, and the Tampa prize went to Karl, Kyle, and Kara Riffel.

Tampa Senior Center will serve coffee and rolls at the center from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 10 in honor of veterans. The public is invited.

Irene Beames of Ramona, Irma Benda of Lincolnville, and Anna Mae Stika enjoyed dinner out Wednesday in Durham.

Deb Hall visited Tom and Dee Duggan Tuesday afternoon.

Prairie Pals met at the Lutheran church Tuesday evening with Lori Meyer and Julie Noeth as hostesses. (Julie was unable to attend, but furnished treats.) Others present were Virginia Bentz, Michele Berens, Mary Clemmer, and Jane Vajnar. The group decided they did not have enough workers to organize the soup dinner which has traditionally marked the opening of hunting season. After the business meeting everyone played Halloween games and enjoyed refreshments.

Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber enjoyed dinner out Tuesday in Salina.

Jane Vajnar met Twyla Brown Tuesday in Wichita for dinner out and shopping.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs spent the weekend in Dodge City visiting Glenn and Eloise Kerbs and their houseguests, Reuben and Cristy Kerbs of Wichita and Clayton Kerbs and Leah Schmidt of Omaha, Neb. They all enjoyed dinner Sunday at the country club.

Don and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., came Friday afternoon to spend the weekend here visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. All joined a number of Grant's school friends at the bowling alley Friday evening in Marion to celebrate Grant's 10th birthday. After bowling, family and guests went out for supper. Jim and Grant celebrated Saturday by attending the Kansas State University football game in Manhattan. After their return Donald, Carolyn, and Tillie came to the Srajer home for supper followed by birthday cake and ice cream. All the Srajers were Tillie's Sunday dinner guests.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita was a Saturday overnight and Sunday guest of his mother, Lois Sklenar. Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro joined them Sunday for dinner in celebration of her birthday, which is Oct. 28.

A number of Tampa people attended the harvest mission festival Sunday at Durham Baptist Church. The event included morning and evening services and a potluck dinner. Paul Thompson was the speaker.

Lucille Kerbs, Eloise Kerbs, Marchelle Kerbs and April, Julie Kerbs, and Ashton Smith attended a bridal shower Saturday in Dodge City for Leah Schmidt, bride-elect of Clayton Kerbs. Cristy Kerbs was one of the hostesses.

Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas of Salina, Andrea Kleiber of El Dorado, and Leona Kleiber joined other relatives for the Kleiber family reunion Sunday at Tabor College cafeteria. After the reunion, Lynn, Peggy, and Nicholas stopped at Leona's home for a longer visit.

Norma and Orlin Wagner of Wichita joined Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn Sunday at church in Marion. After church, Georgia and the Wagners enjoyed dinner out in Council Grove.

Tony Young of Goessel visited Saturday with his aunt, Lois Sklenar.

St. John's Lutheran women attending the Lutheran Women's Missionary League fall workshop at Zion Lutheran Church Saturday in Hillsboro were Betty Mueller, Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, and Joyce Medley.

Members of Tampa's Sunflower Senior Citizens who attended the annual meeting of the Marion County Senior Citizens Board at the Marion senior center Thursday were Margaret Jirak, Magdalen Dvorak, and Jane Vajnar.

Dee Duggan, Leona Kleiber, Mary Christiansen, and Adeline Bernhardt joined other members of the Red Hat Society for a potluck dinner at the home of Anita Hummel near Hope. Acknowledgment was made of Leona's October birthday and Betty Schlesener's birthday in November.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs took Russ Kerbs out for breakfast Thursday in celebration of his birthday, which was Oct. 23.
