Tampa: Costello and Hamm celebrate birthdays

A group of women enjoying dinner out in Durham Friday were Dee Duggan, Tillie Hein, Helen Costello, Adeline Bernhardt, Beryl Steiner, Lorene Kleiber, Shirley Hamm, Leone Kleiber, Bonnie Crandall, and Agnes Steinert. They were celebrating the December birthdays of Helen and Shirley.

Diane Herron, Andrew and Peter of Solomon were Tuesday overnight guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie. The boys stayed with their grandparents Wednesday, while their mother went to Wichita.

Anna Mae Stika took Irene Beames out for dinner Wednesday at Durham in celebration of Irene's birthday.

Jim and Mary Clemmer were hosts Tuesday for Sunflower Senior Citizens at the senior center. Mary presented Martha Melcher with a comforter she and several other members had made. She remarked that Martha does so much sewing and mending for other people she deserves to have something sewn for her. Frank Patton showed the group some pictures he had taken of the statue of Christ under water at Marathon, Fla., and the mysterious spiral staircase in a chapel in Santa Fe, N.M., which has no obvious means of support. Barbara Bunting, a representative of Northview Developmental Services, offered information about the facility. Guests present were Lois Sklenar and Don and Paula Witt. Other members present included Margaret Jirak, Adeline Bernhardt, Magdalen Dvorak, Helen Costello, Bonnie Crandall, Tom and Dee Duggan, Tillie Hein, Leona Kleiber, Carole Spohn, Jane Vajnar, and Ruby Vinduska.

Lucille Kerbs took Jane Vajnar out Tuesday morning for breakfast at Durham.

Leona Kleiber visited Pearl Belton Monday afternoon.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended a card party Sunday evening at Hilltop Community Center in Herington.

Bonnie Haslouer of Abilene and Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie visited Mike and Louise Bevilacqua and family of Wichita Sunday to help Louise celebrate her birthday.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika were guests Saturday evening of Tom and Lori Moldenhauer for a barbecue.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene Saturday to take Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor out for dinner in celebration of Connie's birthday.

Becky Davis and Julie Rziha were among the Centre students participating Saturday in a quiz meet at Council Grove.

Kaylee Hall of Herington was a Friday overnight guest of Tom and Dee Duggan.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt accompanied Betty Mueller to Lindsborg Saturday for the wedding of Dawn Bentz and Jay Osborne at Bethany Lutheran Church.

Dec. 29-Jan. 4

Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan spent the weekend in Bartlesville, Okla., where they met Darla Hall and Adam of Lee's Summit, Mo., and other relatives. They attended a celebration Saturday evening of the 50th wedding anniversary of Ernie and Darlene Kite. The Duggans were Sunday morning hosts for a brunch. Guests included Ernie and Darlene Kite of Bartlesville, Okla., Steve and Lisa Kite of Stillwater, Okla., Dave and Cathy Kite and Abby of Rogers, Ark., Darla Hall and Adam, Ernie and Brenda Bonham of Tyro, and Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington. En route home Monday they visited the Bonhams at Tyro and Richard Mead at a rehab center in Wichita, where they also got to visit with James Mead of Andover and Teresa Hammon of Augusta.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna attended the basketball game Tuesday evening at Centre. James was on the team, and Nikki played in the band.

Andrea Kleiber was a Tuesday dinner guest of her grandmother, Leona Kleiber.

Elmer and Joyce Gooding and their grandson Carsten Faulkner of Tempe, Ariz., visited Reuben and Lucille Kerbs Monday morning. Carsten stayed with Reuben and Lucille while his parents visited Don Beisel and Ken Klein. Later, the Kerbses and Goodings went to Emporia, where they met Virgil and Barb Gooding of El Dorado, Al and Lila Gooding, and Don and Cecile Penney of Topeka for dinner out and visiting.

Amanda Bina was a Sunday overnight guest of Julie Rziha in celebration of their 16th birthdays.

Pamela and Bill Fillmore of Cottonwood Falls took Tillie Hein and Edna Mueller out for dinner New Year's Day in Herington.

New Year's dinner guests of Tom and Lori Moldenhauer were Frank and Anna Mae Stika and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna. Nikki Stenzel joined them for supper.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs, Rustyn Kerbs, Ashton Smith, Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor, April Kerbs, and Elmer and Joyce Gooding and their grandson, Carsten Faulkner went Thursday to Dodge City. They all joined Glenn and Eloise Kerbs, Reuben and Cristy Kerbs, Clayton Kerbs, Leah Schmidt, and other friends and relatives at First Christian Church for rehearsal for Clayton and Leah's wedding, followed by the rehearsal dinner at the country club. Lucille and Connie attended a bridal luncheon Friday for Leah at the country club. Tim and Marchelle Kerbs and Molly, Doug Thompson, Russ and Julie Kerbs, and Jesse Smith joined them for the candlelight wedding ceremony at 7 p.m Friday. Memory slides of the bride and groom growing up were shown. Taylor sang "Shine on Us." Ashton and Rustyn read scripture from Eph. 5:25-33. Reuben II was best man, and Cristy was matron of honor. Carsten was ring bearer, April and Molly were greeters, and Connie and Allison served cake and punch. Everyone attended the reception and dance at the country club.

Tony Young of Goessel visited Saturday with his aunt, Lois Sklenar.

Lynn and Peggy Kleiber visited Dec. 28 with Leona Kleiber. Amanda, Andrea, and Nicholas Kleiber and Dale Klenda joined them for supper out in Lost Springs. Amanda and Andrea were overnight guests, and Amanda spent Thursday with her grandmother.

Tom and Dee Duggan visited Carolyn Duggan Friday at the hospital in Hutchinson. They also got to see Janelle Duggan of Wichita and Jeraine Redger.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn attended a brunch Saturday at the home of Glenn and Eloise Kerbs in Dodge City. Other guests were Tim and Marchelle Kerbs, April and Molly, Doug and Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor, Jesse and Ashton Smith, Reuben and Cristy Kerbs, Clayton and Leah Kerbs, Elmer and Joyce Gooding, and Carsten Faulkner. The occasion was a late Christmas celebration. The group exchanged gifts and enjoyed visiting.

Nicholas Kleiber was a Dec. 26 overnight guest of his grandmother, Leona Kleiber.

Linda Bernhardt and Debra Haynes of Wichita were Jan. 5 dinner guests of Adeline Bernhardt.

Dec. 15-28

Donald and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., arrived Tuesday to spend a few days with Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. All enjoyed a belated Christmas supper Tuesday at the home of Jim, Kris, and sons.

Nicholas Kleiber of Salina was a Monday overnight and Tuesday morning guest of his grandmother, Leona Kleiber.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the Tampa State Bank Christmas party Tuesday evening in Marion.

Rustyn Kerbs was a Tuesday supper and evening guest of his grandparents, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs.

Adeline Bernhardt was a Tuesday evening visitor of Don and Paula Witt.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna, and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki spent Monday in Salina for dinner out, shopping, and a movie in celebration of Nikki's 16th birthday. Tom Moldenhauer joined them in the evening for supper at the Stika home.

Jane Vajnar visited Reuben and Lucille Kerbs Monday.

Christmas weekend guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie were Wayne and Shannon Rziha, Cecilia Marie and Anthony of Tulsa, Okla., John and Jeanne Rziha, Michael, Christopher, Joseph, Timothy, and Thomas, Emilio and Janie Aita of Atchison, Jim and Diane Herron, Andrew and Peter of Solomon, David and Caterina Rziha of Council Grove, Susie Rziha of Independence, and Cecilia Rziha of Hays. Wayne, Shannon, and children, the Aitas, Susie and Cecilia remained for several days. On Tuesday Wayne and Shannon, Cecilia Marie and Anthony, and Emilio and Janie went to Great Bend and Abilene to visit their grandmothers, Gertrude Rziha and Bonnie Haslouer.

Jim and Mary Clemmer recently heard from their niece, Marilyn Dailey who teaches art at Sandhill Elementary School in Haines City, Fla., Two of her students had been honored for remarkable achievements. One designed the picture to appear on the Christmas card of Lieutenant Governor Toni Jennings. Her design was the winner in a state-wide contest, and the lieutenant governor came to the school to present the award. Another student won the national garden, "Draw Your State Flower" contest for Florida and will advance to national competition.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita spent from Saturday to Monday with his mother, Lois Sklenar. Additional Christmas dinner guests were Karen Sklenar, Valerie Hampton, and Judy Malin of Hillsboro.

Ryan Spohn of Manhattan was a Christmas Eve overnight guest of his parents, Gary and Carole Spohn. Georgia Spohn joined them for church and dinner Christmas Day.

Christmas dinner guests of Paul and Edna Backhus were Ron and Jody Heath, Dani and Tyler of Salina, Don and Ophelia Jacobson and Greg Jacobson of Hope, John and Wanda Lewis, Paul, Sarah, and Luke of Andover, Mike and Jennifer Jay of Hillsboro, Phyllis Mueller, Rod Mueller, Brad Backhus, and Jason Backhus.

Tillie Hein was a Christmas dinner guest of Ron and Dolores Scott of Emporia. Other guests were Debbie and Terry Dody of Branson, Mo., Richard Scott of Houston, Texas, John and Rebecca Nottingham, Daniel, Alex, and Emily of Ozawkie, and Pamela Fillmore of Cottonwood Falls.

Adeline Bernhardt spent Dec. 19-27 with Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan of Wichita and Carl and Kathy Hubbard and Clint of Wellington. On Christmas Day additional guests at the Hubbard home for dinner and a gift exchange were Mitch and Jennifer Rusk, Kelsey and Chandler of Edmond, Okla., Chris and Dee Anna Stout and Gabrielle of Wichita, Donna Hubbard, and Andrea King of Wellington. In the evening Adeline joined Carrie Bernhardt of El Dorado, John and Debra Haines, Hailee and Heather, and James Haines of Wichita for a dinner and gift exchange at the Bernhardt home. Adeline accompanied the Hubbards Monday to Wichita, where they attended a movie and ate out.

Christmas supper guests of Leona Kleiber were Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion, Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas of Salina, Dean and Becky Routh, Melody, Allison, and Danielle of Augusta, Armando and Jill Tarin, Andrea Kleiber, Amanda Kleiber and Tim Baxa of Manhattan, Capt. Anthony and Sara Hanson of Enterprise, Ala., Melissa Stuchlik and Tanner, and Dale Klenda of Pilsen. After opening gifts and visiting, desserts were served. Daniel Stuchlik and Allie and Aaron and Holly Routh and Easton were unable to attend.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna, and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki attended the Christmas Eve program at the Lutheran church in Herington. Nikki was in the program, and Lori played the organ. After the program all came to the Stika home for supper. All except Nikki were guests of the Stikas on Christmas Day. The Stikas and Hanschus attended church in Hope where James and Anna were in the program.

Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington were Christmas Eve overnight guests of Tom and Dee Duggan after attending church together. On Christmas Day they all went to Lee's Summit, Mo., where they were overnight guests of Darla Hall and Adam.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs visited Saturday with Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor in Abilene.

Jim and Mary Clemmer joined other family members Christmas Eve at the home of Dale and Sandy Clemmer in Salina. All attended the children's program in which Jim and Mary's great-granddaughter, Blayke Clemmer, performed.

Bill and Kay Stanley of Minneapolis spent Saturday with Gary and Carole Spohn. Georgia Spohn was an afternoon visitor.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs, Russ and Julie Kerbs, and Jesse and Ashton Smith attended "A Shepherd's Christmas," the children's program Christmas Eve at St. John Lutheran Church. Rustyn Kerbs was one of the performers. All were supper guests of Reuben and Lucille after the program.

Ryan Spohn, Adam and Lauren and Georgia Spohn were Dec. 22 supper guests of Gary and Carole Spohn for an early Christmas celebration. Gary and Carole spent Dec. 20 Ryan, Adam, and Lauren in Manhattan. Ryan, Adam, and Lauren were Dec. 18 overnight guests of Gary and Carole.

Lucille Kerbs attended the Centre Junior-Senior High School vocal and instrumental winter concert Dec. 20.

Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas of Salina, Andrea Kleiber of El Dorado, and Leona Kleiber enjoyed supper out Dec. 16 at Lost Springs.

Sheri Kerch and Steve Spohn of Fayetteville, Ark., were Dec. 17 overnight guests of Gary and Carole Spohn. Georgia Spohn was an additional Saturday dinner guest.

Jane Vajnar went Dec. 17 to Kanopolis. She planned to stay overnight with Marc and Wendy Stroede and return on Saturday. Snowbound, she stayed with them until Monday. She then started home visiting Jon Sneath in Carneiro and Berniece Burwell and Fred McMichaels in Salina en route. When car trouble stranded her again, she was a Monday overnight guest of Berniece and Fred and returned home late Tuesday. With a doctor's appointment in Wichita on Wednesday, she did not get news written. Now you know why there was no Tampa news in this past week's paper.
