Tampa: Family, friends attend baptism of Alexandria Stuchlik

Christmas in Durham celebration will be Saturday. The event will include tram rides around town, refreshments at the community building, and treats for the children.

Alexandria Marie Stuchlik, daughter of Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik, was baptized Sunday afternoon at St. John Nep. Catholic Church at Pilsen with Father Richard Stuchlik officiating. Godparents were Candi Thode and Armando Tarin. Alexandria wore the dress her mother wore at her baptism, which was made by Alexandria's great-grandmother, Leona Kleiber. Those attending were Father Richard Stuchlik, Juan Esponza and Mike and Candi Thode of Wichita, Armando and Jill Tarin of Manhattan, Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion, Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik and Tanner, Frances Stuchlik, Ruby Vinduska, and Leona Kleiber. After the baptismal service everyone went to Daniel and Melissa's home for a celebration of the baptism and of Frances Stuchlik's birthday. All sang "Happy Birthday" as Frances blew out the candles on her cake. The birthday cake, Allie's special cake, and homemade ice cream were served.

A large crowd attended the community Christmas party Sunday evening. A silent auction, donation bucket, and bingo raised $315 for park improvements that evening with people having an opportunity to bring later donations to the bank. These funds will be matched by Thrivent. The children enjoyed a scavenger hunt. The group also shared snacks, sang carols, and visited with neighbors. Santa passed out bags of goodies furnished by the Lions Club to the children. The evening was sponsored by the Tampa Community Association with assistance from Holy Redeemer altar society.

The Backhus family enjoyed a family Christmas dinner Sunday at the home of Robert and Vicki Nunn and family in Haysville. Guests included Vic Backhus of Herington, Mildred Bernhardt of Lyons, Gerald and Alice Yoachum of Wichita, Keith and Lydia Evans of Haysville, Paul and Emma Paulson and Joan Thompson of Denver, Colo., Bill and Ruth Taylor of Shawnee, and Paul and Edna Backhus. All attended church at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Haysville. Afternoon visitors were Shane Backhus and son of Haysville.

Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber went Tuesday to Salina and met Peggy Kleiber of Salina for lunch out.

Georgia Spohn and Jane Vajnar were among those attending the Learning in Retirement program Monday morning at Tabor College in Hillsboro. A choir from Elyria Christian School sang Christmas music, and the group shared snacks.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita visited Sunday with his mother, Lois Sklenar.

Tom and Dee Duggan and Adeline Bernhardt joined a group for a bus tour Saturday to Augusta, Winfield, and Quail Valley Fun Barn for dinner and a show. The trip was sponsored by First National Bank of Hope through S&S Tours LLC.

Andrea Kleiber of El Dorado was a Saturday afternoon and supper guest of her grandmother, Leona Kleiber.

Family members helped Reece Berens celebrate his eighth birthday Saturday afternoon with a party at the home of his parents, Greg and Michele Berens, and Addie. The decorations were a basketball theme. Guests included Chris and Tisha Bielefeld, Megan and Seth of Peabody, Raymond and Janet Bielefeld of Hope, and Geraldine Frick of Hillsboro. All enjoyed supper out at Lost Springs.

At the district Future Farmers of America speech contest Saturday at Centre High School nine CHS students finished in the top 10 for their divisions. The top five speakers in the senior division will go on to state competition, and lower classmen may compete in this division if they choose. Kristine Jirak placed first, Nellie Hill second, and Jackie Klenda fourth in the senior division. Gloria Belton took first in the junior division. Among sophomores Allie Will placed sixth and Julie Rziha eighth. In the freshman division Nathan Barney placed fourth, Konley Harding sixth, and James Weber eighth. Congratulations to all.

Prairie Pals, their spouses and guests gathered Saturday evening at the Lutheran church basement for a Christmas party with Laveta Meyer and Virginia Bentz as hostesses. Members brought snacks, and the evening was spent playing games. Others present were Jim and Mary Clemmer, Keith and Lori Meyer, Amy Meyer, and Jane Vajnar.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs met Connie Thompson and Taylor in Abilene Saturday for dinner out.

Amanda Kleiber and Tim Baxa of Manhattan, Andrea Kleiber of El Dorado, and Leona Kleiber enjoyed supper out Friday in Lost Springs. Amanda and Tim visited Leona at he home after supper.

Tom and Dee Duggan went Friday to Herington and enjoyed supper out with Deb Hall and Kaylee in celebration of Deb's birthday.

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League met Thursday for a Christmas supper. Pastor Clark Davis led a devotion, and group sang Christmas carols. Hostesses were Kathy Davis, Joyce Medley, and Leona Kleiber. Others present were Lucille Kerbs, Frieda Bentz, Edna Backhus, Cindy Bentz, Adeline Bernhardt, Janet Bielefeld, Alma Meyer, Betty Mueller, Edna Mueller, and Phyllis Mueller. Secret prayer sisters were revealed, and a love gift of $100 was sent to the Lutheran Heritage Foundation.

Adeline Bernhardt and Edna Mueller enjoyed dinner out Nov. 29 in Salina.
