The classes of 1948, 1949, and 1950 of Tampa Rural High School will meet at the senior center at 4 p.m. Saturday to attend the hog roast together. The occasion is a celebration of their 55th reunion.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the production of "The Cardigans" at the Great Plains Theater Sunday afternoon in Abilene.

Adeline Bernhardt visited Milda Krauter at Marion Manor Sunday afternoon in Marion.

Irene Beamis and Anna Mae Stika attended a commercial party in Herington Sunday afternoon and visited Rusty and Samantha Beamis and Robby.

Leona Kleiber accompanied Terry and Cindy Vinduska to Wichita Saturday morning where Melissa Stuchlik and Tanner joined them. All went to Freewill Baptist Church in Wellington for the wedding of Aaron Routh of Wellington and Holly Howerton of Augusta. Later they all joined Dean and Becky Routh, Allison, Melody, and Danielie and other relatives at the Wellington Steak House.

Agnes Steinert underwent back surgery at Via Christi-St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita Aug. 12. She has been transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Rehabilitation Center at 1151 North Rock Road. She would enjoy cards and visits from her friends.

Tom Murphy died Sunday afternoon at Salina Regional Medical Center. His family has the sympathy of the Tampa community.

Darla Hall and Adam of Lee's Summit, Mo., spent the weekend here visiting Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan. On Saturday Deb, Adam, and Kaylee went to the Road House swimming party.

Stephanie Classen of Marion was a visitor Sunday evening of Helen Schwartzman.

Family members helping Brad Backhus celebrate his birthday with cake and ice cream Saturday evening at his home were Jason Backhus, Bev and Tom Reid, Mike and Jennifer Jay, Phyllis Mueller, Rodney Mueller, Don and Ophelia Jacobson, Greg Jacobson, and Paul and Edna Backhus. John Hajek joined them for part of the evening.

Alice Winter of Hillsboro and Paula Fike of Ramona accompanied Betty Mueller to Wichita Saturday to visit Agnes Steinert at Our Lady of Lourdes Rehabilitation Center.

Leona Kleiber was an evening guest Saturday of Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, Amanda, Andrea, and Nicholas and all enjoyed banana splits.

Georgia Spohn and Jane Vajnar enjoyed supper out Friday evening in Lost Springs.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer enjoyed dinner Friday in Salina.

Leroy Schwartzman of Ballwin, Mo., spent Wednesday and Thursday with his mother, Helen Schwartzman, to help celebrate her 98th birthday.

Russ Kerbs and Ashton were breakfast guests Friday of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs.

Tom and Dee Duggan went to Crown Uptown Theater in Wichita Thursday with a group of Red Hat Ladies and their spouses to see "Getting Mama Married." Before the play they visited Karg Art Glass to watch glass being blown. Upon their return to Herington Deb Hall and Kaylee met the bus with a rose for each member of the Shady Ladies Red Hat Society to celebrate the first anniversary of the group's founding.

Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, and Nicholas Kleiber enjoyed dinner out Wednesday in Marion. After dinner they visited Milda Krauter at Marion Manor and played bingo with the residents.

Carla Hajek and Amy dropped in on Helen Schwartzman Wednesday to wish her a happy birthday.

Interested citizens from most of the towns in Marion County gathered Thursday at the senior center to hear Renee Farrar of Canadian, Texas, talk about agriculture and nature tourism.

The 28th annual reunion of the Leo Jirak family was held Aug. 14 at the senior center featuring a western theme. Hosts for the occasion were Jesse and Rita Brunner and Nathan and Melissa Brunner of Tampa, Travis and Laura Brunner of Kearney, Neb., Aminda Brunner of Hays, and George Brunner of Fenton, Mo. All enjoyed the evening, beginning with a "saloon" at 5:30 followed by a chuck wagon, square dancing, games and activities for the children, hay rack ride, and a shoot out. Those in attendance included Marie and Bill Davis of Yulee, Fla.; Flo and Bob Rahn of Hillsboro; Curt and Ella Vajnar, Conrad, Colton, and Cyrus of Hays; Jason and Kerri Vajnar and Owen of Meade; Matt and Diana Vajnar, Aaron, Kathryn, Ian, Toby, Emily, and Abigail of Pomona; Amy Vajnar and her friend Elise of Emporia.

Sandy Jirak, Monica, Dominic, and Isaac, Theresa Jirak and Blaise, and Maria Jirak of Goddard; Leonard and Linda Jirak of Hartford; Lee and Jennifer Brungardt, Olivia and Ian of Iowa; Stephanie Jirak of Kansas City Mo.; Ann and Tom Collins of Williamsburg; Mike and Glenda Jirak of Glade; Luke and Iris Pauly and Sage of Wichita; Steve Jirak, Raschelle, Seth, Jacob, and Elias of Ramona; Mark and Theresa Jirak, Zachary, Kalynn, Anna and Andrevv of Atchison; Greg and Jackie Jirak, Ethan, Heidi, Emma, Leo, and Pius of Oakley; Francis and Mary Jirak and Kristine, Ron and Rose Jirak, and Margaret Jirak.

The two men's slow pitch softball teams that call the Tampa diamond their home field both finished in the top three at the county tournament Aug. 13-15 in Florence. Burdick Bullets took the championship. The McDonald's team was second. The Tampa team took third.

The Tampa Rural High School classes of 1943, 1944, and 1945 held a combined class reunion Aug. 8 at the senior center. A delicious dinner was enjoyed at Butch's Diner. All returned to the senior center for an afternoon of fun, reminiscing, and refreshments. Those attending from the class of 1943 were Maurine (Beisel) Berger, Abilene; Roy Ottensmeier, Oskaloosa; and Norman and Vivian Mueller, Marion.

Members of the 1944 class present were Virginia (Vainer) Means, Napa, Calif.; Clarence and Margie Stegeman, Overland Park; Steve and Esther (Bentz) Loy, McPherson; Agnes (Mueller) Steinert, Hillsboro; Leona (Bente) Kleiber, Tampa; Dorothy (Smith) Berg, Newton; and guest, and Bob Smith, Marion.

Those from the class of 1945 were Mary (Costello) Wiley, Centralia. Wash.; Richard and LaVerna (Beisel) Render, Colleyville, Texas; Darrell and Marge Costello, Highland Ranch, Colo.; and Mary Jo (Pientka) Bezdek, Marion. Special guests were teachers Helen (Daughtry) Costello and Bonnie (Ash) Crandall.

Tampa Community Association met Aug. 10. Initial plans were made for the Santa Fe Trail Fest in October, and a committee was appointed to organize the details. TCA agreed to give some assistance to Prairie Pals with the annual Hunter's Day soup dinner in November. The next association meeting will be Oct. 12 at the senior center.

There will be no Tampa news next week. Your correspondent will hit 65 on Monday, and she is planning a gigantic celebration. More on this later.
