Don't forget the soup dinner at the senior center Saturday to benefit Troy Hett and sons. The event is sponsored by the Tampa Community Association, Prairie Pals, and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Work on the memorial for Tampa High School has been progressing rapidly. Residents have been dropping by to watch it take shape.

Centre High School will present a drama production, "The Phantom Strikes Again," Friday and Saturday evenings. Tampa students in the cast are Kevin Mueller, Rachel Davis, Nikki Stenzel, Julie Rziha, and Jackie Klenda.

Several from this area attended a concert Sunday evening by the Wissman family of Seward, Neb., at Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie visited Sunday with Gertrude Rziha at Great Bend.

Members of Tampa Triple T's 4-H club were loaded down with honors Saturday evening at the county achievement banquet. Jackie Klenda was the winner of the prestigious "I Dare You" award. Those receiving county project awards in their divisions were Jessica Deines, photography and plant science; Kristine Jirak, swine; Karl Riffel, beef, goats, livestock, and swine; Justin Deines, bucket calf; Julie Rziha, clothing; Shelby Deines, photography; and Cole Svoboda, wildlife. Membership pins went to Jared Barney, Ethan Oborny, Tom Oborny, Karl Riffel (a make-up from last year), Mackenzie Deines, Tabitha Oborny, and Brianna Svoboda. Those earning bronze pins were Chad Mueller, Grant Srajer, and Karl Riffel. Justin Deines was awarded a clover pin. Cole Svoboda received an emerald pin. Shelby Deines got a silver pin. Shaina Makovec and Sheila Makovec received silver guards. Kristine Jirak and Julie Rziha earned gold pins, and Jessica Deines and Laura Klenda received gold guards. Ten-year membership pins went to Laura Klenda, Jackie Klenda, and Andrea Kleiber. Congratulations to all.

Jane Vajnar accompanied Edna Dyck of Abilene Saturday to a district Kansas Authors Club meeting at Wakefield. The program featured Bill Karnowsky reading and discussing his poetry.

Adeline Bernhardt visited Milda Krauter Sunday afternoon at Marion Manor in Marion.

Claudette Spohn, Adam and Lauren of Manhattan were weekend guests of Gary and Carole Spohn and also spent some time with Georgia Spohn.

Donald and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., spent from Thursday to Monday here visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. All had supper at the Srajer home on Thursday and at Tillie's on Friday. Donald, Carolyn, Tillie, and Cole were Grant's guests Friday for dinner at the elementary school in Lost Springs. The occasion for the Srajers' visit was a celebration of the birthdays of Tillie and Grant.

Kaylee Hall of Herington was a Friday overnight and Saturday guest of Tom and Dee Duggan.

Tony Young of Goessel visited Thursday with Lois Sklenar.

A group of senior citizens enjoyed a tour Thursday. They stopped at Marion for a mid-morning coffee break, then went to Burns where they saw the new community center, ate dinner, browsed in some shops, visited Prairie Arts, and viewed some of the city's trademark roosters. From there they went to Peabody, where they visited the Jones Sheep Farm and the museum. Jim Clemmer drove the bus. Others on the tour were Mary Clemmer, Tillie Hein, Betty Mueller, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, Margaret Jirak, Mary Lou Kroupa, Jane Vajnar, Ruby Vinduska, Martha Melcher, Magdalen Dvorak, and Vicki Melcher.

At a Future Farmers of America greenhand conference at Centre Thursday evening, Kristine Jirak and Nellie Hill were chosen to represent the school in a regional creed speaking contest.

Jerry and Jeanne Rziha are the proud grandparents of Thomas Anthony Rziha, born Oct. 29 to John and Jeanne Rziha of Atchison. He weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces. Thomas was welcomed home by four brothers, Michael, 7; Christopher, 6; Joseph, nearly 4, and Timothy, nearly 2. Grandma Jeanne spent from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 in Atchison getting acquainted with the new arrival.

Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan attended a steak dinner Wednesday evening at the Lutheran church in Herington.

Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence in Hillsboro Nov. 1. They attended Learning in Retirement at Tabor College, where Esther Augsburger, renowned sculptor, talked about her art. After the program, they enjoyed dinner out.

Among the Centre students attending the national Future Farmers of America convention in Louisville, Ky., Oct. 26-31 were Julie Rziha, Jackie Klenda, Alisha Barney, and Allie Will. Kristin Mueller and Derek Belton also attended the convention and received their American Farmer degrees.

Prairie Pals met Oct. 25 at the senior center with Mary Clemmer and Shirley Krause as hostesses. Carole Spohn, president of the Tampa Community Association, came to discuss plans for the benefit soup dinner for Troy Hett and his sons on Nov. 13 at the senior center. This event will be sponsored jointly by Prairie Pals, the TCA, and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu will include chili, chicken soup, ham sandwiches, pie, cake, and drinks. Free will donations will be accepted.

A number of Tampa people attended evening service Sunday at Strassburg Baptist Church for their harvest mission festival. Missionary speakers were Bill and Luci Lengefeld, who serve in Japan.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt attended a reformation service Sunday afternoon at the Lutheran church in Lincolnville. Pastors from area churches participated in leading worship.

A number of Tampa people attended an open house Sunday afternoon celebrating the 60th wedding anniversary of Oliver and Frances Unruh at the Unruh home in Hillsboro.

Dinner guests Sunday of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna. The occasion was an observance of Halloween and a belated celebration of Lisa's birthday.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita was a weekend guest of his mother, Lois Sklenar.

Gary and Carole Spohn visited Saturday with Ryan Spohn, Adam and Lauren of Manhattan.

Elena Faye Herbel was honored Saturday afternoon with a baby shower at the Baptist church in Durham. Hostesses were Mildred Hamm, Shirley Hamm, Kay Carlson, Connie Wiens, and Pearl Koch.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna attended the Halloween party Saturday in Ramona.

Georgia Spohn visited Marguerite Goertz Saturday in Hillsboro.

Helen Jean McGonigle of Wichita and Larry Parsons of Mount Hope visited Friday afternoon with Helen Schwartzman and her houseguest, Larry Schwartzman of Ballwin, Mo.

Cindy Vinduska visited her mother, Leona Kleiber, Thursday afternoon.

Numerous people from this area attended the state volleyball tournament Friday evening in Salina to watch the Hillsboro team compete. Two members of the team, JuliAnne Chisholm and Tina Frick are from the Tampa-Durham community, and Laura Skiles has grandparents here.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer went Friday afternoon to Salina.

A number of Tampa people attended the funeral of Marie Wiens Friday morning at Durham Baptist Church. Her family has the sympathy of the community.

Peggy Kleiber and Leona Kleiber enjoyed lunch Thursday at the cafe.

Rocko Talley and Lyle Waited of Salina visited Thursday with Helen Schwartzman and her houseguest, Larry Schwartzman.

Edna Mueller and Adeline Bernhardt enjoyed dinner out Oct. 27 in Salina.

Tom and Dee Duggan returned home Oct. 26, from a 10-day bus tour to the eastern states. Also in the tour group were their friends, Joe and Joyce Cox of Abilene and Everett and Rhea Kolling of Herington. They spent an evening with relatives in Columbus, Ohio, and spent some time in Amish country in Pennsylvania, where they saw a lot of Amish quilts and had dinner in an Amish home in Lancaster County. They toured the candy factory at Hershey, Pa.

They spent three nights in the Washington, D.C., area, where they spent one evening with Dan Costello. Other highlights included a guided tour of the Capitol and visits to Smithsonian Institutes and Arlington National Cemetery, where they saw the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They saw both Mount Vernon and Monticello and had lunch at the historic Michie Tavern near Monticello.

They came back through Kentucky, seeing the state capital at Frankfort and Churchill Downs at Louisville. They also spent an evening in the home of Tom's cousins, Bill and Lynne McKinney, in Louisville. Darla Hall met them at Independence, Mo., for lunch. A delightful bonus was the beauty of the fall foliage, especially in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Jack and Sharon Grosse of Peabody, Adeline Bernhardt, and Leona Kleiber visited Oct. 26 with Milda Krauter at Marion Manor and attended the monthly potluck for residents and their families.

Georgia Spohn and Jane Vajnar attended the Learning in Retirement program Oct. 25 at Tabor College in Hillsboro. Naomi Penner spoke about her family's home in Alaska.
