Tampa: Prairie Pals prepare alfresco meal

Prairie Pals met Tuesday evening at the Bentz home with Virginia Bentz and Laveta Meyer as hostesses. Cheri Bentz gave the group tips on grilling demonstrated by a meal cooked entirely on the grill. The occasion was planned as an alfresco meal, but when the weather turned chilly, Otto and Frieda Bentz allowed the group to eat in their house. Others present were Mary Clemmer, Iona Dietrich, Shirley Krause, Lori Meyer, Julie Noeth, Jeanne Rziha, Amanda Brown, and Jane Vajnar.

Georgia Spohn went Wednesday morning to Hillsboro. She visited Marguerite Goertz and met Lenora Graham of Florence for lunch.

Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik and Allie were hosts for a party and barbecue supper Sunday in celebration of Tanner Stuchlik's second birthday. Guests included Jill Tarin of Manhattan, Joe and Gwen Robbin and daughter and Mike and Candee Thode, all of Wichita, Terry and Cindy Vinduska of Marion, Monte and Sarah Stuchlik, Ross Stuchlik, Ruby Vinduska, and Leona Kleiber. After Tanner enjoyed opening his gifts, a decorated birthday cake made by Melissa, ice cream, and drinks were served.

Sunday dinner guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki and Lisa Hanschu and Anna. Ronnie Hanschu and James joined them for supper. The occasion was a celebration of Lori's and Frank's birthdays, which were Sunday and Monday respectively. The meal was climaxed with birthday cake and ice cream.

Reuben Kerbs came home Sunday from the hospital. He is recuperating from hip surgery. Sunday visitors were Connie Thompson and Taylor of Abilene, Ashton Smith of Salina, Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn, and B.J. Clement.

Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber attended the Learning in Retirement program Monday morning at Tabor College in Hillsboro and ate lunch in the college cafeteria. Robert and Eddie Hiebert of Abilene gave a musical performance — singing and playing the hammer dulcimer, guitar, mountain dulcimer, and autoharp.

A group of FFA members from Centre attended district elections and a banquet Monday at Winfield. Kristine Jirak was elected president and Nellie Hill, secretary. Other Tampa students attending were Julie Rziha, Gloria Belton, and Alisha Barney. Family members attending included Maria Gear of Winfield, Albert Jirak and James Jirak and Monica of Goddard, Francis and Mary Jirak, and Ed and Gwenn Belton.

Kristin Srajer of Omaha, Neb., spent the weekend here visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. She had the pleasure of watching Grant's and Cole's soccer games Friday and Monday at Marion and Herington.

Paul and Edna Backhus attended a reception, dinner, and dance at the American Legion hall in Newton Sunday in celebration of Earl and Doris Stubby's 50th wedding anniversary.

Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn met Steve Spohn and Sherry Kersh of Fayetteville, Ark., for a visit Saturday afternoon at Hope.

Several members of the Red Hat Society and some husbands joined a bus tour to Tescott Saturday sponsored by the bank at Hope. The Lions Club of Tescott sponsored a program which included a chicken supper and a performance by the Main Street Opry of Osage Beach, Mo. Those participating included Joe and Joyce Cox of Abilene, Everett and Rhea Kolling, Rose Mary Deines and Helen Sorenson of Herington, Ramona Goracke and Betty Schlesener of Hope, Tom and Dee Duggan, Leona Kleiber, and Adeline Bernhardt.

Jim Srajer and Cole attended a Kansas State University football scrimmage Saturday evening at Manhattan.

Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki enjoyed supper out Friday evening in McPherson in celebration of Lori's birthday.

Margaret Jirak and Adeline Bernhardt attended a meeting Friday of the Marion County Senior Citizens Board in Lincolnville.

Rita Quinn and Julie Utt of Winfield were recent visitors of Leona Kleiber.
