Don't forget the Santa Fe Trail Fest at 4 p.m. Sunday at the ball diamond. Bring your lawn chairs and wiener sticks and enjoy an evening of fun.

Leona Kleiber visited Wednesday morning with Pearl Belton.

Andrew and Peter Herron of Solomon spent Wednesday with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha.

Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt went to Wichita Wednesday to meet their sister, Ellen Erickson of Tacoma, Wash. She planned to spend about a week here visiting relatives and friends.

Prairie Pals met Tuesday evening in St. John's Lutheran Church basement with Michele Berens as hostess. Others present were Virginia Bentz, Lori Meyer, Julie Noeth, Mary Clemmer, and Jane Vajnar. Members shared a salad supper for their first meeting after the summer hiatus. After supper and the meeting, the group built a scarecrow and placed it in front of the former post office building for "Scarecrows on Parade."

Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, and Lisa Hanschu and Anna attended a home and garden party Tuesday evening in Burdick.

Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence Monday in Hillsboro. They attended Learning in Retirement at Tabor College and enjoyed lunch out. The first program of the semester featured Robba Moran of Hays, wife of Congressman Jerry Moran.

Weekend guests of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs were Clayton Kerbs and Leah Schmidt of Omaha, Neb., and Glenn and Eloise Kerbs of Dodge City. Additional Sunday guests were Reuben and Cristy Kerbs of Wichita, Jesse and Ashton Smith of Salina, and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita and Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro spent Sunday with their mother, Lois Sklenar. Greg stayed overnight.

Amanda Kleiber and Tim Baxa of Manhattan, Andrea Kleiber of El Dorado, and Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas were Sunday dinner guests of Leona Kleiber.

Jim Srajer and Cole attended the Kansas State football game Saturday at Manhattan.

Julie Noeth ran a half-marathon in Kansas City this past weekend.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki attended a reunion of the descendants of Fred and Mary Schneider Sunday at the St. Paul's parish hall in Herington.

A large crowd attended the wedding of Ashton Kerbs and Jesse Smith Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church followed by a dinner and dance at the community hall in Pilsen.

Martha Melcher and Tillie Hein attended Old Settlers' Day Saturday at Marion.

Melissa Stuchlik and Tanner visited Friday morning with Leona Kleiber.

Sept. 14-21

Tampa is gearing up for the third annual Santa Fe Trail Fest starting at 4 p.m. Oct. 9 at the ball diamond. Come to enjoy an old-fashioned wiener roast, chili cookoff, chance to win a cake, music by the Routh sisters and Gail Burns and friends, games, a hayrack ride, and visiting with neighbors.

The recently erected memorial to Tampa Rural High School will be dedicated at 5 p.m. More information about the cookoff may be obtained from Beth Riffel. Contact Carole Spohn for information regarding other activities. If you would like to be on a team for a scarecrow building contest, also contact Spohn. Materials for the scarecrows will be furnished. Bring lawn chairs and roasting sticks.

Don't forget the October "Scarecrows on Parade" in the small towns in northeast Marion County. Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate with a variety of scarecrows, and people in the surrounding area are invited to come and view our creative efforts. Commissioner Dan Holub will judge these works of art Oct. 15.

Ruby Vinduska, Adeline Bernhardt, and Leona Kleiber spent Tuesday in Salina, where they attended the senior fair at the Bicentennial Center and did some shopping.

Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn met Steve Spohn of Hope and Ryan Spohn of Manhattan in Junction City Tuesday evening for supper out in celebration of the birthdays of Steve and Georgia.

Betty Mueller and Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended the funeral services for Veona Popp Tuesday morning at Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Veona was a long-time resident of this community and is mourned by many friends here.

Ashton Kerbs, bride-elect of Jesse Smith, was honored Sunday afternoon with a bridal shower at St. John's Lutheran Church. Honored guests were Julie Kerbs, mother of the bride, and Lucille Kerbs, grandmother of the bride. Other guests were women of the congregation.

Tom and Dee Duggan, Martha Melcher, and Tillie Hein attended the card party Sunday evening at Herington.

Janet Bielefeld and Addie Berens were Wednesday afternoon visitors of Jane Vajnar.

Adeline Bernhardt met Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington Saturday in Marion where they attended Art in the Park and enjoyed dinner out.

Anna Weber was honored with a party Saturday evening in celebration of her 11th birthday. Hosts were Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and James. The event was a barbecue with a western theme. The supper was topped off with birthday cake, ice cream, and pop. Guests included Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Paul and Edna Backhus, Jim and Marilyn Anderson and their granddaughters Bethany and Alyssa, Marianne Wyatt and James, Monte Kohman, Gene Herpich, Alfrieda and Randi, Kent Sly and Katelyn and her friend Ashley, Jeannie Weber and grandson Jordan, Jeff Turley, Mikayla Antoczyk, Ellie Miller, Carrie Carlson, Haleigh Owens, and Bekah Basore. The latter five girls were overnight and Sunday dinner guests.

Lucille Kerbs met Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor in Abilene Saturday for dinner out.

Twelve members of Tampa Triple T's 4-H Club exhibited at the Kansas State Fair with gratifying results. Jessica Deines, Shelby Deines, Shaina Makovec, and Sheila Makovec earned blues in photography, while Justin Deines' photo received a red. Sheila also was recognized for a centennial photo. Lauren Geis was awarded a blue in dog showmanship. Kristine Jirak won a purple in clothing and a blue in foods. Nick Kleiber received a red on his demonstration. Jackie Klenda won a purple in crocheting. Darren Mueller took blue with a two-year-old Holstein cow, red on a three-year-old Holstein cow. and blue in fitting and showing. Kevin Mueller earned blues on a four-year-old Holstein cow and fitting and showing. Julie Rziha won a purple on her demonstration and a blue in clothing.

Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Leona Kleiber enjoyed supper out Friday evening at Lost Springs.

Art and Betty Mueller met Lola and Jack Ware of White City in Herington Thursday for dinner out.

Jane Vajnar visited Reuben and Lucille Kerbs Wednesday afternoon.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs enjoyed supper Wednesday evening in Abilene in celebration of their wedding anniversary. They received many cards and phone calls in honor of the day.

Sunflower Senior Citizens held their monthly potluck and meeting Sept. 13 at the senior center. Magdalen Dvorak and Ruby Vinduska were hostesses. Others present were Margaret Jirak, Adeline Bernhardt, Tom and Dee Duggan, Tillie Hein, Jim and Mary Clemmer, Martha Melcher, Leona Kleiber, Bonnie Crandall, and Helen Costello.

Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro and Lois Sklenar accompanied Lucy Young of Wichita to Turner, Mo., Sept. 8-11 for a family reunion.

A reunion of the Mueller-Friedly cousins was held Sept. 11 at the Lutheran fellowship hall in Marion. Hosts were Earl and Eloise Mueller, Norman and Vivian Mueller, Paul and Jackie Mueller and Keith and Colleen Mueller. Tampa people attending were Phyllis Mueller, Rodney Mueller, Edna Mueller, and Art and Betty Mueller.
