Tampa: Santa Fe Trail summer meeting is July 9 at the park

Cottonwood Crossing Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association plans to hold its summer meeting July 9 at Tampa with a potluck supper in the park. More details will be forthcoming.

Jim and Mary Clemmer went to Salina Sunday for Father's Day dinner with Dale and Sandy Clemmer, Charlie and Courtney Clemmer, and Cassie Clemmer.

Adeline Bernhardt spent from Saturday to Monday with Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan of Wichita. Joining them for a cookout Saturday evening to celebrate several June birthdays were Carl and Kathy Hubbard and Andrea King of Wellington, Clint Hubbard of Dallas, Texas, Ivan and Dee Shaw of Saracoxie, Mo., Walter and Valerie Osteriack and Eric of Joplin, Mo., John and Debra Haines, Hailey and Heather, James Haines and Margaret Halloway of Wichita, and Dallas and Kathy Halloway and Cooper of Topeka.

Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro was a Sunday dinner guest of her mother, Lois Sklenar.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs were Father's Day dinner guests of Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn. Ashton Kerbs joined them in the afternoon. Reuben received Father's Day greetings by telephone from his other children.

Father's Day dinner guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie were David Rziha of Council Grove, Caterina Rozman of Overland Park, and Diane Herron, Andrew and Peter of Solomon.

Tom and Dee Duggan spent the weekend in Oklahoma, where they attended a family reunion of Potteiger descendants at Osage Hills State Park near Bartlesville. Among the 75 relatives attending were Darla Hall and Adam of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington. Some of the reunion group saw the log cabin built by Dee's grandfather, Granville Lewis Potteiger. The cabin has been relocated to a city park in Bartlesville by the historical society. They also toured the home of Frank Phillips, founder of Phillips 66 oil company. Cousins came to the reunion from Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Rustyn Kerbs spent Saturday afternoon with his grandparents, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs.

Jane Vajnar met Madeline Stuive of Carneiro Saturday in Hutchinson. They attended a conference of the Kansas Association of Genealogical Societies with Henry Z. Jones as the featured speaker. Jones has done much genealogical research about German immigrants of the 18th century and written a number of books. After the conference Jane and Madeline met Delbert Stuive for supper out.

Ryan Spohn, Adam and Lauren were Friday overnight and Saturday guests of Gary and Carole Spohn and spent some time with Georgia Spohn.

Betty Mueller visited Saturday morning with Lucille Kerbs.

A group of women enjoyed dinner out Friday in Abilene and celebrated Adeline Bernhardt's birthday, which was June 6. Adeline and Leona Kleiber were hostesses. Others present were Bonnie Crandall, Eleanor Herbel, Tillie Hein, Lorene Kleiber, Beryl Steiner, and Agnes Steinert. After dinner, they all went to Russell Stover's.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended the production of "Annie" at the Great Plains Theater Friday evening in Abilene. Their granddaughter, Taylor Thompson, played the role of Duffy, one of the orphans. Taylor's parents, Doug and Connie Thompson of Abilene, also were present.

Georgia Spohn and Jane Vajnar enjoyed supper out Friday evening in Lost Springs.

Adeline Bernhardt went to Marion Thursday afternoon to volunteer with the members of the Red Hat Society meeting at Marion Manor. She read a story to the residents, and they enjoyed cookies and cold drinks.

Members of Sunflower Senior Citizens and three guests enjoyed a dinner June 14 at Butch's Diner. Those sharing the meal were Adeline Bernhardt, Jim and Mary Clemmer, Bonnie Crandall, Magdalen Dvorak, Tom and Dee Duggan, Tillie Hein, Margaret Jirak, Martha Melcher, Frank Patton, Jane Vajnar, Ruby Vinduska, and guests, Theresa Tajchman, Kara Druse, and Mike Lindsay. Leona Kleiber joined the group at the senior center after dinner for their meeting and card bingo. Those winning prizes were Jane Vajnar, Martha Melcher, Jim and Mary Clemmer, Leona Kleiber, and Bonnie Crandall.

Members of the Herington chapter of the Red Hat Society attended the wedding of one of their members, Sue Olsen, and Gail McIntyre June 11, followed by a reception and dance. Those attending were Dee Duggan, Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt of Tampa, Mary Christiansen of Durham, Rose Mary Deines, Helen Sorenson, Alice Bell, Karolyn Schlesener, Phyllis Allen, Barbara Askew, Liz Monnington, and Rhea Kolling, all of Herington, and Betty Schlesener of Hope.
