Tampa: Spohn attends 60+ program at Tabor years ago

Caterina Rziha of Council Grove is staying with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie while doing a rotation at Greenhaw Pharmacy.

Lucy Young of Wichita and Lois Sklenar met Tuesday at the home of Valerie Hampton in Hillsboro. Lucy brought dinner in celebration of Valerie's birthday, which was Friday.

Jim Srajer and Tillie Hein went to Wichita Tuesday to attend the funeral of Vernon Deines. Deines was a long-time resident of this area before retiring to Wichita. The Tampa community extends sympathy to his family.

Paul and Edna Backhus attended a meeting Tuesday evening of the Dickinson County Farm Bureau in Abilene.

Georgia Spohn was among those attending Learning in Retirement at Tabor College in Hillsboro Monday morning. The speaker was Wilma Dick Wall, who talked about the life experiences which shaped her writing. She is the author of a Christian novel, "Forbidden," set in California at the time of the internment camps for Japanese-Americans during World War II.

Halloween supper guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika were Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki.

Art and Betty Mueller met Lola and Jack Ware of White City in Junction City Sunday for dinner out, visiting, and shopping.

Frieda Bentz accompanied Adeline Bernhardt to Lyons Creek Sunday afternoon for a zone Reformation service with a lunch following.

Sunday dinner guests of Paul and Edna Backhus were Bev and Tom Reid of Marion County Lake, Mike and Jennifer Jay of Hillsboro, Brad Backhus, and Jason Backhus. The occasion was a celebration of Jason's birthday and the Reids' wedding anniversary.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita and Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro spent Sunday with their mother, Lois Sklenar. Greg was an overnight guest.

A group of Centre High students attended the national FFA convention in Louisville, Ky., from Oct. 25-29. Nellie Hill placed third in the nation in creed speaking for which she received $250 in cash plus a trip to Washington, D.C., for the Washington Leadership Conference next summer. Tampa young people participating were Gloria Belton, Nathan Barney, Julie Rziha, and James Weber. Laura Klenda also attended part of the convention and received the American Agriculture Degree.

Jackie Klenda and Kristine Jirak attended a Catholic Youth Convention in Atlanta, Ga., Wednesday through Sunday.

Lucille Kerbs met Connie Thompson and Taylor and a friend of Taylor's in Abilene Saturday for dinner out.

— JENNIFER WILSON visited Jane Vajnar Saturday and took her out for dinner in Hillsboro. Jennifer is spending some time in Kansas visiting relatives and friends before moving to Colorado Springs, Colo. Since leaving Hillsboro two years ago, she had been living and working in Amarillo, Texas.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and Anna and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki attended a Halloween party in Ramona Friday evening.

Andrea Kleiber of El Dorado and Leona Kleiber were Friday overnight and Saturday guests of Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas of Salina and helped Lynn celebrate his birthday, which was Sunday. Andrea was a Saturday overnight and Sunday guest of Leona, and Adeline Bernhardt joined them Sunday for dinner out in Hillsboro.

Rustyn Kerbs spent much of the day Friday with his grandparents, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs, and they enjoyed breakfast and dinner out.

Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro and Jane Vajnar enjoyed dinner out in Marion Friday to celebrate Valerie's birthday.

COC promotion

is a success

Marion's Around the Town Open House held Oct. 27-29, has been deemed a success.

Seventeen local businesses participated in the event with many providing refreshments and drawings for customers.

Merchants reported businesses were busier than usual during the open houses.

Sponsored by Marion Chamber of Commerce, the organization said it will plan to do it again next year.
