A group of Red Hat Society members attended a luncheon at the Eisenhower Library Monday. Jacqueline Berger from California gave a talk about first ladies whose husbands have been in the military. Ladies attending include Joyce Cox of Abilene; Rhea Kolling, Helen Sorenson, Alice Bell, Karolyn Schlesener, and Rose Mary Deines of Herington; Anita Hummel of Hope; and Dee Duggan.

Adeline Bernhardt spent from Friday to Monday with Carl and Kathy Hubbard and Clint of Wellington. They attended wheat festival activities including a downtown parade, gospel concert at the high school auditorium on Friday evening, and arts and crafts in Memorial Auditorium on Saturday. They attended services at Calvary Lutheran Church on Sunday followed by a barbecue which was served by youth from area churches to benefit the ministerial alliance.

Later in the afternoon Kathy and Adeline took Carl to the airport to fly to St. Louis, Mo., for five days. Mother and daughter then enjoyed supper out and a movie in Wichita.

A number of Tampa people attended a concert Sunday evening by SONrise (Harlow and Jarene Rudolph) at Durham Baptist Church. Refreshments followed in fellowship hall.

Family members met Sunday evening for supper at the home of Frank and Anna Mae Stika. Others present were Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna Moldenhauer, and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki. The occasion was a celebration of Tom's and James's July birthdays.

Members of St. John's Lutheran Church shared coffee and cookies after church Sunday and bid farewell to Shirley Hein who is moving to Omaha, Neb.

Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas were weekend guests of Leona Kleiber. Andrea Kleiber joined them for much of the time. On Friday evening the Kleibers and Dale Klenda enjoyed supper in Lost Springs. On Sunday they all attended a spaghetti dinner at St. John Nep. Catholic Church in Pilsen. Nicholas spent part of his time here visiting friends.

A number of Tampa people attended a potluck dinner at Durham Baptist Church Sunday in honor of the Rev. Lloyd and Jill Harsch and Michael of Fort Worth, Texas. Their other son, Christopher, was not with them because he was spending some time on a relative's ranch. Pastor Lloyd and Jill provided special music at the worship service and shared some of their experiences with Hurricane Katrina. They expect to be able to move back to their home in New Orleans, La., next month.

Tampa Triple T's 4-H members participated in a mini-fair Sunday afternoon. Exhibits included livestock, food, clothing, art and photography. A highlight was watching Lauren and Lisa Geis show their dogs. Older 4-H members judged the food exhibits and gave the exhibitors tips for entering the county fair.

A group from Durham Baptist Church spent Friday afternoon and Saturday painting Jane Vajnar's house. Some had put in time earlier — erecting scaffolds, removing old paint, and priming. Church members also provided food for the workers. I am afraid to name those participating for fear of omitting someone, but every pair of hands was deeply appreciated.

Tom and Dee Duggan joined Joe and Joyce Cox of Abilene and Everett and Rhea Kolling of Herington Thursday for supper in Abilene. They also attended the production of "The Music Man" at the Great Plains Theatre.

Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki spent July 8-14 in Branson, Mo. They saw the Shanghai Acrobats of China show, and Nikki got their autographs. They also spent a day at Silver Dollar City, toured the New Titanic Museum, enjoyed horseback riding, and shopping.

Adeline Bernhardt entertained her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Thursday for dinner. Guests were Carrie Bernhardt of El Dorado, Cryssy and Lexi Bernhardt of Panchatoula, La., and Brian and Kevin Bernhardt of Marrero, La.

Lenora Schmidt of Florence visited Tillie Hein Thursday. They met Martha Melcher at the café for lunch and spent the afternoon visiting at Tillie's home.

The Shady Ladies chapter of the Red Hat Society enjoyed dinner July 12 at the café. Those attending included Barbara Askew, Phyllis Allen, Rose Mary Deines, Helen Sorenson, Alice Bell, and Karolyn Schlesener of Herington; Ramona Goracke of Hope; Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, and Dee Duggan.

Eugene Orel from the Ukraine and Emil Mushrush of Strong City visited Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki July 2. Eugene had not seen Lori and Nikki since 1992, when he and Alex Melnik, also of Ukraine, stayed in the Ramona area. They had a nice time reminiscing about that summer.
