Teams organizing for annual Relay for Life event
Teams now are being formed for this year's Relay for Life fund-raiser.
The relay will be held from 7 p.m. July 21 until 7 a.m. July 22 at Warrior Stadium, Eisenhower Drive, Marion.
County residents are invited to participate in the event to raise money for cancer research with the goal of a cure for cancer by 2015.
The cost is $50 per team with at least one team member on the track for the 12-hour event.
Luminaries are available for $10 each and can be a memorial or honorary. To purchase a luminary, contact any committee member.
A meal will be available Friday evening with proceeds benefiting the relay.
Peggy Blackman of Marion, a 25-year ovarian cancer survivor, is chairman of this year's event.
Other members are Phyllis Kreutziger, Kevin Fruechting, Margie Sandwell, Jim Cather, Ralph Kreutziger, Chris Edwards, Elaine Jantzen, Peggy Cather, Sharon Andes, Kenneth Sandwell, and Brenda McGinness.
Gene Winkler has volunteered to be announcer and DJ.
