Technical difficulties

Modern technology is great. New time-saving devices are being invented every day to make life easier. The newspaper business has changed tremendously in the past 20 years and most of us wouldn't go back to the way things were.

Sometimes, however, modern technology gets the best of us.

We attended the fund-raiser for Marion County firefighters Sunday evening at Marion County Lake, with the intention of photographing the event and covering it for this week's paper.

There was a steady stream of people lined up for food and to see the firefighting demonstrations and equipment.

When the reporter returned to the office to download the camera, the disk was empty, the photos lost.

A lost story can be rewritten. Sometimes it's better the second time. In this case, the opportunity was lost and the photos could not be retaken.

We appreciate Jim Cloutier and Shawmar Oil and Gas Company's sponsorship of the fund-raiser and fireworks display.

We apologize for the lack of photos. It doesn't mean we didn't cover the event. It doesn't mean we don't care. It just means modern technology got the best of us.
