Tentative agreement is reached by teachers, BOE

Three resignations, three new hires approved

Negotiations were tentatively settled, resignations acknowledged, and new employees announced during Thursday's special Marion-Florence USD 408 board of education meeting.

Negotiations were tentatively approved following one two-hour session between Marion-Florence National Education Association and USD 408 board of education.

When the dust settled, a tentative agreement was reached between the teacher's organization and the board of education.

The tentative agreement will allow a $300 increase to the base salary of all teachers, single health care insurance, and continued health care insurance coverage for teachers until age 65 for teachers who will retire in the next two years.

Three resignations were accepted by the board. Tammy Jirak, middle school teacher of science, social studies, and computer; Amanda Pfannenstiel, fifth grade teacher; and Beth Schobert, third grade teacher resigned from their teaching posts.

The board followed with the hiring of three teachers. Stacey Hanson and Alisa Jirak were hired as elementary school teachers, and Tina Kraus will teach middle school science and social studies.

The hiring of three drivers' education teachers were approved. Steve Janzen, Sean Spoontz, and Doug Vogel were re-hired.

Checks in the amount of $52,927 were approved.

The next board meeting will be 7 p.m. June 14 in the central office.
