LETTERS:   Thank you Marion years ago

To the Editor:

I am writing on behalf of my wife and myself to thank the people of Marion and the surrounding communities for their hospitality and generosity during our recent visit.

Never having traveled overseas before, we were a little apprehensive about coming to a small town in the middle of the USA. During our visit with our daughter and her family who reside here in Marion, we were struck by the friendliness of those that we met.

On many occasions we were greeted by strangers with smiles and a genuine curiosity about Australia and ourselves in general.

One of the highlights of our trip was Chingawassa Days held the first weekend of our stay.

A big thank you is extended to Margo Yates and the other committee members who made it a point to make sure that my wife and I were recognized and welcomed by the community.

We also will forever remember that a simple walk downtown was met by many waves and smiles from vehicles passing by. This point is strengthened by a comment to my wife on one particular journey, that my hand was getting tired from waving so frequently.

Our presence at Chingawassa Days also resulted in a memorable article about us in last week's Marion County Record, many copies of which we are taking back to Australia with us to share the spirit of the Marion community with friends and family over there.

In closing we would like to take this opportunity to thank you again and compliment you on making our first overseas vacation one we will always remember.

Kerry & Jillian Harrison
